Dear All,
I acquired a 1960 Supro Coronado 1590 in a trade.
It is a nice guitar with lots of mojo, however far from perfect (which I was aware of) - someone fitted a bigsby using tiny and very short hinge screws which were stripped when I unpacked it (not a very big problem I hope, I intend to fix it with dowels/toothpicks, correct screws and a Towner hinge plate adapter), plus some previous owner decided to cut an "access panel" into the back .
If I am not mistaken the Coronado has the "Kord King" neck similar to National's "Stylist" neck, which has a metal core and is adjustable by means of a tilt screw (?)
As you can see in the pictures the fingerboard has dot inlays. All the Coronados I have seen before on the www. and the one in Mark Makin's book have block inlays - the board fits great and doesn't look replaced, so I don't know what to make out of that.
What also struck me is the headstock angle, which is almost "positive" - the headstock has been equipped with two string trees for the middle strings, which indicates it has developped a forward bow over time (I suppose it was "flat" like on fender guitars originally?). I have seen pictures of several Supros with added string trees, which leads me to believe this is not an uncommon issue with these necks.
I am looking forward to playing it once the bigsby is in place again and would be thankful for any opinion on the fingerboard and headstock.
Best regards,
Michael
