Just got an early Blues Baby ( from Bonzo) very happy with the amp but there is an odd 1/4” unmarked socket . The Blackface/ Plexi and Presence switches are on the underside of the amp ( new ones have these on top) then 1) aux. socket, 2)’fat’. 3) Reverb. , 4) ex speaker 5) ?. I have emailed Award Session but have not yet got reply Had a look ‘ under the hood’ and can see it’s not a parallel speaker socket, can’t find a schematic of the BB so don’t know what it does. New BBs don’t have this extra socket, It’s the socket on the right not on the PCB. The yellow wire goes through a resistor then to R28 on the main board Any ideas?. Pete

Hi Pete. I think the socket might be for a footswitch. Never used it myself. There is a download of the manual I think refers to this function.
Best wishes, John

For footswitches as I thought. Only available on the top models! I've just downloaded the manual from their site. Tells you everything you need to know. 👍👍

Thanks bonzo for looking up the manual but it sheds no light on the mysterious unmarked socket. As there is no schematic and only manuals for the new models (which don’t have this extra socket) it is still an unknown..
I don’t want to put a standard on/off foot switch as it could damage something . Pete

I have a BluesBaby45 at home - but the switches are on the top panel - so it might be pointless me looking at my amp for you. But does your amp already have a footswitch socket ?
I'd think you would be best waiting on a response from the Award-Session man. (PS. I sent those pickups to you yesterday - just been too busy to do it until then).

Yes Snakehips, I think your BB is a more resent one . As I said it has 4 marked sockets, one for an mp3 input , 3 for designated foot switches and one unmarked. The cable goes to a part of the board well away from the ‘presence’ or ‘blackface’ switches and the speaker output. Could be a line out? Pete

It’s a line out! Award Session offer a line out socket as an extra ( found this is their Custom specs. Section) . Not sure I will ever need it, but nice to know. Will add a small sticker for any future owners. Works fine.

One thing I didn’t like about the amp is the ‘ kettle lead’ . It plugs in ( in a rather awkward place) to the chassis. It can pull out if the mains lead gets a tug ( this is an old model, don’t know if the new ones have the same system) so I have added a cable clip. This means the plug has to live in the bottom of the amp where there is a risk of it damaging the speaker cone. My Fender Princeton has had the plug and foot switch in the back Of the amp for 20 years with no problems, so it’s a risk I am happy to take! Some of the original run of Session amps had a net to protect the speaker, might add this to mine, it would be a very open web, so should not affect cooling Pete
