The great actor, James Stewart (AKA George Bailey), playing steel guitar in 1941. Nice style too, his hands are perfect. Shine On Michael

Great picture but the guitar is not plugged in, is it? Well spotted sir! I hadn’t seen that, so while it is a posed photo, we can easily see that James was a player by the perfect positioning of his hands and his whole body language. Shine On Michael

I researched it and it came up on the Steel Guitar Forum as from a 1941 movie "Pot'O Gold starring Stewart." Probably a publicity shot with guidance from the musician, the musician holding the archtop is in the movie playing the the steel guitar with the archtop on his lap. Maybe Stewart took occasion to take a lesson or two on the steel guitar...

"James Stewart was a multi-talented actor who could do more than just act. He was also a skilled musician. He played the piano, guitar, and even the accordion. He was also a talented singer. He released two albums, one in 1949 and one in 1966." Attachments:

on piano -
from 4.50 and on accordion
He payed the accordion in the scene, but it was over-dubbed by a pro player.
Another film star who performed was Pernell Roberts (Adam Cartwright_)
