I have just finished cleaning this 30s ‘George Fornby’ uke. The head , though in good playable condition, had the usual grease and dirt 80 odd years of playing can leave. Unfortunately I didn’t take a ‘before’ photo. But the ‘after’ photo looks like an almost new head. The George Fornby writing on the head was already very pale and faded, and I was careful not to make it any worse. I cleaned the head with a pencil eraser ( what we British call a ‘rubber ‘, which means something slightly different in the US). Though this has probably been used by banjo players for years, I had only just discovered it, Pete
