One of the first Nationals I ever saw in real life was an original El Trovador.

Just in case: it's not easy to spot on those pictures, but the fretboard seems to be unglued where the neck joins the body. I've got close up pictures from the seller, I hope they don't mind me sharing one of them:

That makes straightening the neck a bit easier ! I'd love to buy it for for £500 but the price has gone bonkers in my opinion.

It went for £1750! Wow. That's inflation for you.

That’s so cheap for a 30s El Trovador, and although it needs some work, it’s in okay condition. £200 or so to do it up and it’ll be a great instrument.

Those are Kay made and much nicer sounding in my opinion to the Trojans an Rosita's and easier to set the neck as well. Kenny,,,,,,,,,,

I'd imagine it's going to need more than £200 spent on it. The pictures are not great but I think the fretboard & binding may need reglued, if not replaced, as well as a likely neck reset. Then again, the buyer may be lucky and it hardly need anything. Hoping you are wrong, anyway.

Martyn here.
I bidded £1700 on it and was busy driving back from Oswestry (having bought a vintage Dobro) when it ended. If I’d not being driving I would have bidded a bit higher.
My thoughts were it would have a full rebuild and for another £500-ish on top I’d have a relatively rare and good quality instrument. In total any decent vintage National for under the £2.5k I’d have had in it and I’d doing well these days.
Damn annoying I missed out by £50. It’s probably somebody on here that got it! If so congratulations!
I’ll have to hold out for a wood Triolian now.

Wasn't me !!!!! I've been too naughty this year as it is ! Shame you had to cancel your Edin Fest gigs - I'd have come along to that.
