This thread was about a request for intelligence from folks who had made / wound their own pickups wasn't it? でつ e&oe ...Fair point! I missed the beginning and was responding to later posts without going back through the thread. And in response to that... 5mm is what Elmar achieved with his Sixtus/MM pickups. Johan, you should contact Elmar and ask him. Shine On Michael

Michael, the Sixtus and your MM pickups seem awesome in all aspects. Just the thickness I look for. I might have to try one out although I feel they're to big overall. Are they singlecoil or humbuckers? I'd like them to be just as wide as the fretboard and half the length. I've got some cable piezo's, maybe I'll route a cavity in a new biscuit and try it after all.. Even though I really don't like piezo tone, haha!!

Hi Johan !
Routing out a slot for a piezo AND finding a piezo long enough to fit around a biscuit is not as easy as it sounds. The Artec PC-85 piezo is the same dimensions as the original Highlander pickup (length & thickness) but is the only one I found that fits in a Highlander biscuit. It only cost about £25 GBP plus shipping — and I fitted it into a spare Highlander biscuit I had, with a mono jack socket in the F-hole. Was a bit harsher & treble sounding than a Highlander pickup (without it’s preamp, as a fairer comparison) and a bit less signal volume, but otherwise was passable.
I’m still working in finding a good Highlander alternative piezo but progress is sloooooooow !!

Johan, Elmar doesn't make Sixtus or MM pickups anymore, but I am sure if you contacted him he would explain how he made them. They were available as single coil and humbucker Shine On Michael

Michael, I just saw some pics of your MM model from Sixtus. That singlecoil is exactly what I'm looking for. Haven't seen'em before I'm sorry to say! And I see they're sold out...

Johan, we did them for a few years and it was Elmar that decided to stop making them for me, it was mostly because of complications caused by Brexit and the insanity of importing goods to the UK. Then Elmar decided to stop completely and do something else, which is what he is doing now. Occasionally secondhand MM "Slim" pickups turn up for sale, so keep a look out. Shine On Michael
