Here you go.... The Mark Makin Washboard Resonators Interview >part 2 The second part of our interview with National Guitar Guru Mark Makin. In this final part, Mark tells us about how he got his hands on a prototype square neck and what that entails; gives us some more info on the process of putting his book together and anomalies in the National Factory; and how he, together with Allan Timmins and Don Young helped develop the Tri-Cone model for National Resophonic. Mark also talks us through a couple of his Holy Grail guitars and tells us the story of George Harrison spending an afternoon with him in his house in Nottingham! ‘I can’t possibly conceive I sat and drew 1150 guitars like that… I mean, it’s mental!’ Mark’s book is available to buy here: markmakin.co.ukShine On Michael

A great podcast and what an interesting man Mark is. As for suggestions for future guests, how about Dave Arcari?.

This was outstanding. Mark was great in the interview and the history, knowledge and tales are priceless. The man behind the book. My favorite book sits an arms length from my two old Nationals. I strum through that book much like the old guitars. Thanks to the washboard resonators for such a great series of podcasts. I look forward to them all!

Watched both parts, fascinating, 30 odd years to write a book, that’s commitment. Seems a very nice chap and being similar age I can relate to some of his experiences. Thanks Washboard Resonators for this entertaining podcast.

Thanks Washboard Resonators for this entertaining podcast. A huge massive pleasure! I bet so many folks had zero idea of what actually went into that book. Incredible.

Thanks Washboard Resonators for this entertaining podcast. A huge massive pleasure! I bet so many folks had zero idea of what actually went into that book. Incredible. I think I am probably the only person, apart from Mark's wife, June, that knows how much time, passion, commitment and sheer determination went into creating the book. After hundreds of phone calls and conversations about its development through most of the 30 years, I then spent a few hours every day for three weeks on Skype with Mark proof-reading the whole book. I am not sure how many of us there are, but I have read "aloud" every single word in the book and examined every single illustration to make sure they are correct. It was a hard task and an honour. Shine On Michael.

Hi everyone Both parts of the interview were great . the knowledge that Mark has is a treasure ,especially for us coneheads ....i was hanging on every word.. Many thanks to martyn and jack for putting it together .... Best to you all al It’s our pleasure. We’d always wanted to find a way to preserve stories of peoples life in music and lockdown made us start the podcast. It actually costs us time and money but we’re both really proud of bringing this long held dream to life of facilitating interesting stories. Mark was very much in mind early on when formulating this format. This week we have a young 1920s styled singer jazz singer from Bristol called ‘Jack Calloway’ and his tale is both moving and incredibly interesting for what he had to do to make his dream come true and become a full time musician. I hope people go through all the different podcasts we’ve done and give them a try. Even if you’re a guitar player and we’re interviewing a drummer. All the people are picked because they’ve got salutary lessons to share. Season 3 will be recorded over the summer for an autumn release. We’ve got at least two big names in the resonator guitar world that will have incredible stories. Thanks!
