Certainly resonates with me! Pete
Come to think of it, I do have a few contacts on my phone such as ‘ Henry, black SG’ and ‘ Kit- violin’ though none that just say ‘ 61 345’ or ‘ cheap Dobro with humbucker ‘ with no name attached, even though I do actually remember some people by their instrument.

Close, but no cigar I'm afraid. My bass rig: 1962 Fender Precision Bass with a 1969 Fender Jazz Neck, strung with La Bella flats that I play through an early 70s Ampeg B15 Portaflex. Best, PD.

have heard it said that the best way for landlubbers to remember which sides are right and left on a ship is that "port" contains 4 letters. just like left.
mr. cartoon should have come up with similarities between mr. X's gear and his actual name?
cant help but come away with the impression the dialog must have been a quote from a salesman at a large musical instrument store?

This is very silly and not true - no one remembers anything about the bass players kit , their name and to buy him/her a drink. The only time even the band remembers, is when someone drops a note & they all look at the bass player.
Don't ask me how I know.

Bob, head for the bar during the drum solo, plenty of folks around to buy you a drink then.
