I am very sad to hear that Nanci Griffith died yesterday, she was only 68 years old. Nanci was a friend of my brother, Alan, and she was delightful. Back in 1998 I spent an evening in her company, drinking a few beers, smoking a few cigarettes and talking about music and our mutual friends in the business. Nanci was delightful and a lot of fun. Nanci Griffith carved herself a place in history as a music legend. Here's a lovely photo that my brother Alan took of Nanci about to go on stage at the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert, Madison Square Garden, New York - 10.16.92. Smiling with her guitar and a cigarette. Beautiful! Nanci Griffith >RIP ---------- Shine On Michael

I saw her at Turbury Castle in the very early 90’s. We had a couple of cds of hers already which were great - there was a live one which my kids loved when they were younger. Sorry to see her go

Just talking with Sue and she said that Nanci gave her a hand painted Blue Moon Orchestra sweatshirt. I don't remember it, but when Sue finds it I will post a photo.
Shine On Michael.

Saw Emmylou Harris at the Jazz Cafe in Camden when she was touring Wrecking Ball.
Support act was Gillian Welch.
Nancy Griffith had been headlining somewhere else in London that night but turned up at the end and Emmylou, Gillian and Nancy sang three part harmonies - imagine how heart-breakingly ace that sounded...

I’m sure that was wonderful! Emmy and Gillian are also old friends of my brother, Alan. I have never met Emmy, but I have spent time with Gillian and she's great. Wrecking Ball is one of my favourite albums. Shine On Michael

I broke my back in 1991 and spent 9 months in Phiilipshill Hospital in East Kilbride just outside Glasgow. In those days the spinal unit was a big old fashioned Nightingale Ward, a nurses’ desk at the top with 38 beds, 19 0n each side of the ward. As a patient there was no privacy, except for 10 minutes in the morning when they put the curtains round to let you get washed and dressed. Every morning for about the first 4 months when they pulled the curtains round I’d play Love at the Five and Dime and cry. Still can’t listen to the song with out crying
RIP Nanci, you wrote some beautiful songs.

Hi everyone i agree 100 percent that its sad news indeed , Nancy had the ability to make her music come alive and be dare i say personal to the listeners , I know i spent a few hours in the pub on sunday conforting two friends who were very upset at this news and its understandable ...as my late gran would say a treasure will still remain a treasure ...
RIP Nancy

RIP Nancy al Indeed, Nanci made her music personal to the listener and that also was an important part of her live performances. She could play a 2000 capacity venue and make it feel like a folk club. Here's another of Alan's photographs of Nanci. He designed this package too. Shine On Michael

Just finished reading this thread. What a nice tribute. Thanks to everyone for sharing. It made my day. Now I’m off to listen to some of Nancy’s great songs.
