Hi. Haven't been here for a while so please forgive me if I'm asking inappropriate questions. I have a metal bodied Dobro dating from the '80s (87 I think). I have rarely seen similar, particularly as it has no cover plate for the truss rod. So I have a couple of questions as I don't play it much at all these days and am considering letting it go to someone who might enjoy it a little more than me. Firstly, it's age. I think, from the serial number it's 1987 but I'd like this and the rest of the stamping on the headstock decoded if possible. Secondly, value. If anyone is able to give me advice on this I'd be mighty grateful, wouldn't hold you to it, but I figure there's someone in here who looks at these things regularly and might be able to help me in this respect. I hope you can help and very much appreciate any contributions. Cheers Mitch

smaller F holes would make it earlier than 87, maybe it is 81 Should have a truss rod cover with Dobro engraved in the plastic. Value is a little difficult in these topsy turvy times, not sure if people are buying or sitting on there hands at the moment. Nice the guitar none the less. Lee

I will confirm my thought after some checking tomorrow, but I think your guitar is - year 1980 number 1327 Brass.
This is how it is laid out - 8 1327 0B
I don't do valuations on here, but if someone else wishes to estimate its value, that is fine with me.

I recently bought a similar Dobro from the Netherlands on Reverb. That was €800 though there was nearly £200 import duty on top. Prices vary hugely though as always there is a big difference between what people ask and what the actual sale price turns out to be. Hope that helps a little All the best Andrew.

Hi Mitch,
My day was not as I expected it to be, so it'll probably be tomorrow that I can confirm that my dating is correct.
