Hello all, I wonder if you can help...in your listening experiences which Blind Blake cd collection is the best in terms of sound and selection?
I currently own 'Ragtime Guitar's Foremost Fingerpicker' on Yazoo, and 'The Rough Guide to...Blind Blake' on World Music Network.
I'm definitely interested in any thoughts and recommendations.
Cheers
Lew

There are some tunes you've already got on the 'foremost fingerpicker' collection, but the other, more recent Yazoo collection (2058 / The Best of Blind Blake) is definitely worth getting, sound-wise. Then you've got the 78s found later on the John Tefteller Blues Images Calendar collections, some great songs like Night and Day Blues, Champagne Charlie, Miss Emma Liza. Can't say I'm a fan of Andrew Rose's remastering, but if he has snippets you can listen to on his site, give it a try.

I am not knowledgeable about Blind Blake's reissues and remasters as he is not an artist, apart from a handful of tunes, that I have studied in any depth. The only remasters I have heard are the ones I was involved with for Catfish Records twenty years ago and Andrew's work. The problem with all of Andrew's remasters are the sources he gets them from. If he had access to original masters or just clean 78s, his remasters would sound better. Shine On Michael

The Yazoo is the best around unless you have access to the tracks on John Tetfeller’s CDs which come with his blues calendar.

Cheers guys, I'll have a listen to the snippet on the Pristine website and keep an eye out for the Tetfeller calendar releases.
All the best Lew
