Hi First post from a lurker. I read this thread on Highlander Pickups and remembered that I had a Highlander IP2 Pickup somewhere . I bought the pickup directly from Bob Wolstein himself when I attended the 2003 International Guitar Seminar in San Rafael California. Bob Wolstein was the designer and owner of Highlander and a fellow Scot to boot. A very nice man and was assisting Woody Mann, Bob Brozman,John Renbourn, Happy Traum, Mike Dowling and John Cephas during the event. I bought the pickup with the intention of having it put in my guitar but never did. A rummage around in my garage located the device where it has been for the past 17 years still in its packaging unopened. I am unlikely to use it now so if any one is interested in this one feel free to pm me. If this post is considered poor etiquette please feel free to moderate or move or delete if necessary. I am in Edinburgh , Scotland.

Hi kjm,
An IP2 is not suitable for a resonator, is it?

The IP2 is a dual system for acoustic guitars, not for resonator guitars. www.highlanderpickups.com/catalog/ip2.htm(I have moved this into the correct board for selling stuff - Tin Can Alley) Shine On Michael

They no longer exist. Sad, frustrating, but true. Shine On Michael

The IP2 is a superb pick-up. I have one in my Brook Tamar acoustic. My luthier Roger Williamson fitted it and regards it as the best piezo. Teamed up with the internal mic, it's a great sound.
It's reliable - I have had the piezo element on one fail (in 15 years). A lot of big name players use them. Tragic that they are no longer made.
One thing to be aware of is that the IP2 needs to be fitted professionally. It needs a groove to be made at the bottom of the bridge slot.
Best regards, Rich
P.S. I was tempted to buy this as a back-up when first advertised, but as I was in the process of moving house - with consequent expenses - couldn't justify it. I'm now moving house again so still can't justify it, sadly.

Hi again !
The owners of Highlander didn't "go out of business, as in went bust. They decided to retire. They wanted to sell on the business, to keep it going - but alas, and perhaps made more difficult by the whole Covid situation, no buyers were found.

Of course it's sad that they are no longer in business- everyone has to call it a day at some stage after all, but it's even sadder that due largely (I suspect) to the ubiquitous intellectual property considerations, everyone is now permanently denied access to that design of sound capture technology.
