I need some advice on strings for weissenborn,i play in open d and i have D,addario ej17, 13 to 56 i would like to use 15 to 56 newtone M Messer resonator guitar stings i looked . at getting some Aloha strings but they have none in stock at the moment .also i want to up grade the end pins plastic at the moment ,what is the best to use ivory, ebony ,or brass ,i have already changed the saddle to maple, any help would be appreciated petej

Not sure what sound you are going for, a maple saddle would normally be used on a resonator not an acoustic which is basically what the weissenborn is (things could get a bit dull and too mellow and lose some high end), pins are subjective I would look at bone or ebony and if it is not a vintage instrument that gauge of strings should be fine.

Lee is correct that 15/56 MMs will be fine. Aloha strings were designed by me and Malcolm Newton to allow people with fragile instruments to safely tune to GBDGBD.
Most modern Weissenborn-style acoustic Hawaiian guitars are not fragile instruments.

I have an old Celtic Cross Weiss and use very easily sourced 13-56.
Tunes to Dobro GBDGBD and also to a lower pitch version of C6 with no problems. Back in D again until tuning option anxiety reappears.

Strings for Weissenborn, OK Gold Tone makes something like that These can also be used on Resonator Guitars.
