Hi there !
Why is it that every time I think I'll sell a guitar or two (motivation mostly fueled by G.A.S.!!!), that I decide what to sell, then have a wee play on it before taking photos for ebay - and then decided I couldn't possibly sell it ??? !!!!!!
I had ideas on selling my 14 fret 1935 National Style O, because the neck is quite fat on it, and despite my broken wrist is nicely healed now, until recently, I was now struggling to play it. Played it last night, it sounded great AND found that I can now play again my B7th chord (with thumb on 6th string, 2nd fret, open 1st string). To be fair it's still got the 11-52 strings I put on it to ease myself back into playing while my wrist cairried on healing.
I also have thought for a while that my 14-fret Duolian sounded dull and un-inspiring. I totally forgot that I did a new biscuit for it with slightly lower action, and have put a set of Martin Retro Monel strings on it at some point. Sounded ace last night when I played it !
Honestly, if I get to the point of needing to sell guitars, I'll struggle deciding which one goes first !! I just sold a 12-string recently and have regrets on that already - except it gave me the dosh to by a 1954 Kay bass and a Dearmond Tremolo Control effect unit.
Anyone have similar issues with deciding what to sell, then changing your mind, wondering how you could possibly have decided to sell it ?

There are so many things I wish I'd never sold. Very occasionally I've bought them again.
The trick is to sell something in order to buy something better I suppose. The problem is when you sell something, miss it, then realise there was nothing better...
Enough to give you the blues.

I moved from a three storey house to a 2 storey a few years ago and had to sell my collection of 26 Guitars. I'm down to about six now I think although Mandolins and Melodeons have started to multiply. I wish I'd never sold......the Tricone. However, it sounded terrible when I played it.

I'm very lucky that I have a room full of my "collection" which my sons and grandsons don't want me to part with for obvious reasons.
However, I did get shot of a PRS SE SC earlier this year which I do not miss - don't know why I bought it in the first place to be honest.
Another thing is I don't really use electrification or play bass anymore so I really should consider what to do.
Trouble is I look at these electricky things and they all have their own little history and stories to tell so I just close the door and quietly walk away.
GAS is a strange thing, innit?

I'm glad you did move some stuff on Dave,I still sit looking lovingly at the Duolian I got from you. Then I have to sit and look lovingly at the guitars in the music room, summer house and up in my bedroom or they get jealous. Oh and the four in the TV room. I have always been a collector with virtually no self control and a very understanding missus. Trains, Bonzo dog stuff, parrots, real and ornamental, art deco.....I could go on but you get the idea. I have moved on one guitar and traded two others. My therapist is very pleased with my progress and even lets me look in guitar shop windows after they are closed. And so it goes....πππ
Best wishes to you all, John

I bought a Yairi FY84 on impulse 9 years ago after neglecting playing for about five years and wanted to motivate myself. I bought a knackered old 66 LG-1 which let me down at a gig and I realised it needed more work than I thought. So I traded them in a straight swap for a a Martin 00017 whiskey sunset thinking it would be a sensible solution to the problem Gibson and the fact that my dobro and my guild D50 both needed work too. The Martin was absolutely rotten - overpriced, bad build quality and flat as a f@rt . Gutted about the yairi. Absolutely gutted. Glorious guitar. Was within a whisker of offering to trade the Martin to the lad who bought the Yairi from where I traded it. Found a Yairi YSL-1BS which is essentially a Gibson LG-2 but hand built to much higher quality. Moral: never sell a Yairi, donβt trust big brand names.
