I was looking around for 12 string guitarists, having been impressed by the Goodman "Midnight Special" 12-string guitar for sale. I came across Mike Russo, a very energetic and accomplished, though not well known, player. From the SG Workshop- ""Mike Russo was known better as an artist than as a musician. It's demeaning to say he was a "sign painter..." I wonder if that was tongue-in-cheek humor on his part. He played the nightclub circuit in Portland for many years, but gave that up in the 1980s. I believe he died at age 95 several years ago... well respected for his work in art circles but largely forgotten as a musician. This was the first I'd heard him play...and what a monster! This was filmed by the Seattle Folkore Society which recorded several notable folk guitar players in the 1960s...all black and white film, but all showing both the fretting and picking hands at different times. " It seems from the comments on the AGF and SGF, other forum members have already heard of him! www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=284329www.tapatalk.com/groups/stefangrossmansguitarworkshop/anyone-ever-heard-of-mike-russo-t3733.html#.USGH7Wfy98EPlaying 6 string - Playing 12 string -

Hi - I'm a fan of his playing so am glad to be reminded. I hope you don't mind this. It's a common mistake with his age as misinformation was posted in 2013 and it circulated. His father was Mike Russo Sr and he died at 95. The guitar player in the videos is Mike Russo JR. and he was also a pianist. He does have an album out from Arlhoolie, but I think it's out of production although available on vinyl according to discogs... linkIn 2018 Stefan Grossman posted a note from his daughter inquiring if there were anyone who had material or recordings as she was looking to make a retrospective presentation for him and she said he was at that time still alive and 80 years old. ... linkHe toured with Fred Mcdowell and the Arhoolie album is "This Ain't No Rock 'n Roll". and also toured with lightning Hopkins. There's some more of him on LivinTheBlues Channel:

The Pye-International "Black Box" record player Prof Scratchy gave me on long-term loan, is set up in my loft. I usually play a few records every time I'm up there (eg. getting the Christmas decorations down in December, and putting back up again in January !)
Many thanks for the Dropbox thing instead, Mr Scratchy !!!
