I am collecting the components to build a coodercaster. I have strat body and 1950 supro lap steel pickup assembly. I also have the gold foil type pickup.
My question is...maybe will be hard to get an answer...how much of the trademark cooder electric slide tone is from the supro pickup, and how much from the neck position gold foil pickup? Would likely need to know how he sets the balance, or how others do it...i am thinking of just installing the entire lap steel assembly as the active element...thanks

May i ask what makes a Coodercaster a coodercaster? Is it the lap steel and Teisco pickups? Jon Yes functionally as known to musicians it includes both pickups. My question...which is seeming to me to be sillier as I repeat it... is are both pickups blended and to what degree for the classic cooder tone? I could mount the teisco foil pickup towards the neck and devise a blend pot to combine both pickups... Perhaps some owners will share their settings... thanks

Lots to consider, the Valco is a big chunk of the sound, the tieisco when played on it,s own adds another dimension, together they will be out of phase, Amp choice, springs retained or not for the vibrato, then of course the small matter of the player..... Lee
Ps do not put the tieisco too close to the neck, I think there is about ah fingers width back required

Lee thanks for the insight. I was thinking of using the minimalist bridge/tailpiece that is integrated with the Supro lap steel unit... This is sort of what i am thinking... but gold foil probably should be included... Or maybe as is call it the capocaster....

Hi Fred! Try Ramon Gooses Youtube channel 'The Guitar Channel'. He loves a coodercaster, has quite a few himself and many videos on the subject. A nice guy and a good channel recommended to all anyway. Chris.

Fred as you are in the Us Jason Lollar is your man, alternatively do what I did when I had a Godin with the Lollar and had two volume knobs to blend with one tone pot, that worked a treat. Lee

Thanks all for your valuable information. I plan to get this done in a month or so. Looking for a used strat neck.

Jono...that butterscotch tele is gorgeous (but whats with that odd looking neck pu)...if you have the skills, skilled friends or both you could probably put one together for less than half of their price.

together they will be out of phase, The Supro pickup is (usually)a humbucker, with the top 3 strings out of phase with the bottom 3, usually the pickups are not mixed because top 3 and bottom 3 sound different. Pete
