Way back when, I had the fortune to work with count basie and his orchestra a few times... he absolutely required two altec voice of the theater speakers and only three microphones across the front. One for the piano and two in front of the orchestra... he would refuse to play without this familiar sound system... in the hyatt ballroom in front of a few hundred...a sound system was superfluous...
watching what was going on, I realized the orchestra keyed its rhythm off freddie green's right hand. You could never actually hear him in a room with the orchestra but he was driving the band... im still trying to downstroke these riddems...

That's really slick and professional Jeff. Thanks for the heads-up.
Notice the high action on the guitar at 2-20?
e&oe...

Notice the high action on the guitar at 2-20? e&oe...Yeah man... this was one of the few recordings I found on utube on which you can hear him. Its a nice montage of old footage not synced to the audio but Im working on a 12 bar walking progression and just hunting for chord ideas. something was definitely wrong with the guitar on the actual track... higher than high action and very wonky tuning. Says a lot about bucking up and making do in that he was playing it at all. Im ashamed to say... id probably turn my nose up if someone handed me a guitar with a half inch of relief... Best, jeff

I love this style of playing but my left arm can't handle it. I don't know how he managed with those strings that high!
