Swing clarinet, I have often thought it would be great if it could be recreated on electric lap steel.

Sol Hoopii’s main Influences on his jazz soloing were swing clarinet players. Clarinet and lap steel guitar are very similar. Many of Sol’s signature phrases were lifted from swing clarinet.

If I could swing like this... That’s superb! Sounds like s horn player at times. Even alongside real horns. Very nice 👍🏼 Shine On Michael

One thing slide players can do (mainly in an electric band) is play horn parts. I try to do this (with variable success) but rarely hear it from other players (I don’t get out much ,so that may be why!) Pete Come to think of it , we sometimes play ‘Bring it on Home’ at jams and I try to add the violin part from the Sam Cooke recording

Once upon a time on a Saturday morning, a neighbour accused me of playing a trombone - fact was I was playing a Supro Comet through a Matamp First Lady Combo. ....I took it as a compliment.

Electric slide and saxophone are really close, especially from a distance. Violin too. Instruments without fixed notes.

Then there are the Sacred Slide players ( Aubrey Ghent in particular , I think there is a thread about a year ago) often closely follow vocal lines, but I guess most slide players do albeit subconsciously. Pete
