I want to sell an Icarus single cone resonator and put an add on Gumtree. I had problems logging in to my account each time I tried, and had several strange messages from potential buyers.
I stressed I would only accept cash on collection, and gave my location in the ad. Two said I wasn't asking enough for the guitar, and insisted on paying more. They both said they were disabled and wouldn't be able to collect the guitar and wanted me to send it after, paying through PayPal. Suspicious.
Another said they were interested, then realised they lived 200 miles away, and couldn't collect the guitar.
I have now deleted the add, and will be selling on eBay, once I get a new camera.
Have others used Gumtree successfully? Is Reverb safe to use?
Any advice appreciated.

Like all things just keep your wits about you, Reverb and EBay are connected in some way or other, put the guitar on eBay this weekend without a photo as they can be added later, this weekend it will cost a £1 to sell, a no brainier Lee

I've had good success selling instruments through Preloved and Fretboard. Both are free with no selling fees. Fretboard is guitar focused so it would seem ideal for you. Of course, always be aware of scammers.

I’ve used gumtree several times. There have always been dodgy approaches but they are easy to spot. Stick to your guns, do it on your terms. Be cautious of overseas buyers and the cross-border PayPal exploit where the scammer gets the goods and their money back.
eBay charges 10% plus PayPal charges. They do regular £1 total fee promotions, wait for them

I've had success with Gumtree.Just stick to their advice of seeing before buying. You're probably more at risk of meeting dodgy geezers if selling a mobile/car etc. than something more esoteric like a reso. At the end of the day they're free regardless of whether you achieve a sale though not offering delivery limits your catchment somewhat. ebay have £1 selling fee deal going this weekend by the way.

Just my two cents all but I’m pretty sure it’s only the listing fee that is £1 and that there are still other fees involved that are priced normally. Definitely check the small print!
For times when the eBay fees are normal it’s still worth popping it on there, but add the 10% fee (or whatever it is) to your asking price and then in the description mention that your guitar is listed elsewhere. If the interested potential buyer has their wits about them they’ll likely know to also check the normal places such as gumtree or here to check if it is listed...most likely at a slightly lower price due to there being no fees :-) or they’ll buy it on eBay at the higher price on eBay...either way you won’t be short of what you actually want for your guitar.

Have others used Gumtree successfully? Is Reverb safe to use? Any advice appreciated. It think gumtree is great for selling guitars as it is free and you have more chance of finding a local buyer as people generally search adds by location, so there is no packing and shipping to deal with. You do have to be careful, as there are plenty of scams & scammers about. Although there will be genuine buyers wanting to use PayPal, there are a few PayPal scams that will involve sending to links that take you to web pages that appear to be the PayPal website, if you type in log in details or bank account info the scammers can get your details. I would be wary of people who come up with stories of why they can meet you in person, it may be the start of some kind of scam. It might be worth holding out for a buyer that will meet you in person. Check out gumtree's help section for useful advice on selling and protecting yourself from scams. help.gumtree.com/s/topic/0TO1r000000aacMGAQ/safety?tabset-d2e5d=2

Lew I've gone through the T&C's thoroughly Lew--not many people can say that--and it's appears that £1 is the total fee as long as you stick to them. (There are quite a few exclusions). Think we'd know by now if there was a catch he said with a little trepidation. Must remember the listed elsewhere line though.

I think you’re correct although it’s only £1 if it sells within a certain period, eg 1 week. Be careful if the bay automatically relists your instrument as I think the offer will no longer be valid. Hope that’s helpful.

Kinda linked to the other thread about having too many guitars / dream guitars, this would make my dream guitar list!
