I have played a few Italia guitars, including a couple of Chris Rea's. They're nice guitars with a lot of character, but I would only buy one if I was being teased with a pretty good price.
Apart from Chris, I don't know anyone that plays them. I think he likes them because of the Italia name and that they look like 1960s Italian coffee machines.

Twenty five years ago I had the pleasure of playing at a wedding at Sophia Loren's house in the mountains near Lake Como. It was quite an experience.

resotonic, not really sure what the repro supro brand means by "semi-hollow". have heard the original offering was prone to feedback due to being hollow body. see posting #8: www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/guitar/acapella-41/1104413-methinks Les Paul's solid center slab design, called semi-hollow by Gibson was designed to cure that issue. he (LP)added acoustic chamber wings to the top and bottom of a body-through solid piece of wood for mounting PU onto, thus stifling vibrations from guitar body. as such, wonder how close the supro [Absara Audio LLC] offering could sound compared to the OEM Supro [VALCO] mitchfit

I can only Imagine... was Fred Fellini there ? Somehow that sounds as surreal as the Italia guitars look...lol Thanks for the input, Im supposed to call the seller Saturday and take a play... Im really trying to talk myself out of this and now he says hes open to trades...ouch. Its tougher for me to let one go.

Creolian, if the Italia is well priced, then don't let it go.
Frederico Fellini wasn't at Sophia's house that day, but seven years earlier in 1987 our National guitar band "National Gallery" played on an Italian TV chat show and one of the guests was Franco Zeffirelli. It was a long time ago, but I think he said hello, or probably ciao!

Positive update
It turns out this seller is like me, a closet rock star and guitar hoarder... hes also a luthier and says he made his first guitar ( a stella acoustic) into an electric... used a record player for an amp when the beatles came to nola in 1964 He sounds pretty cool and we chatted for a long time. Hes looking for a tele and it turns out I have a tele hes been lusting after... a japanese Pan that I paid 45$ for ... I needed a shipping case and the guitar came with it... long story short, im going to put together a few other unused pieces parts guitars, an ovation viper with a broken neck and a derelict Silvertone, some electronics.... All in all about 400 my cost. Fingers crossed, hes busy until Sunday. If nothing else it sounds like he might be a good jammin partner... hes got the same first name as my recently deceased jammin partner... Don
Thanks again for the input... its a different kind of guitar for me and if my hand likes the neck, im not too concerned with how it sounds as that can be easily modified.
All best yall,
Jeff

I haven’t seen the new Supro Ozark, but a year or two ago I was sent the Supro lap steel to review and it was so bad I refused to review it. I needed to change the strings because it was fitted with an insanely light gauge set. It has a strings-thru-the-body setup and I regretted removing them because I was unable to get any proper gauge strings on it. It was completely useless. Since then I have had no interest in the new Supro company’s products.

Their website doesn't list prices of their products - kind of a pain to have to send an e-mail to find out every little detail.

Hi Jeff et al, what a lovely looking guitar! It would be like having Sophia Loren sitting on your lap! Lol! Best wishes to you all, John You are a bad influence... lol I guess it was just GAS but I couldn't come home without a guitar... this one is about as close to holding SL as Ill ever get. A peavey Wolfgang. It balances nicely and is sort of a cross tween a les P and a tele. It looks sexy enough for me ( Im easy to please, I think cigar box guitars are sexy ) and most of all, she has a beautiful fast neck... I was a Peavey snob and still am to a degree... this and tele clone "omniac jd" are a couple of close as Ill ever get to custom made. This one is a little different than most in that its a hardtail... and if anyone is curious, im playing blues on the thing... not evh.

Creolian, your new guitar looks beautiful. Peavey have done some good stuff over the years. In the 70s I had a Peavey Classic amp and like so many things I have owned over the decades I wish I still had it. Would I buy another one, probably not as I only use tube/valve amps, but I bought that one when they first came out and back then I thought me and my blonde Telecaster sounded great with it.
