This is not a rant. This is me still glowing and slouched in the armchair with a beer and "Songlines" blasting out over the stereo. ("All I Do" actually)
There's some great keys and flute from dear Kofi on that. C'mon guys- Derek even without a slide and in open "E" too...
We've just scored three front row seats for next February at Wembley... It was the comment we read about it being the sole European show for a while that pushed us into it. Given that their last show was over three and a half years ago in this country that seemed like a no-brainer.
They (TTB) seem to do more shows in Europe. Given that their shows sell out I cannot understand this. Do they get a better feedback from European audiences? Are the Continentals better flushed with the folding green beer tokens to pay for modern ticket prices? Are they seeking to expand their European market at the expense of Blighty's devoted fan base? It beats me.
Yes OK, north of £150 a head is stupidly expensive, but in any event- when loved folks around you are curling up their toes it no longer seems important. In any event I can settle my mind with such good seats for TTB, at the same price I really begrudgingly paid for The Rolling Geriatric Squintillionaires, where I may just as well have been sitting on a bench in Whitton High Street as up in the gods at Twickers. The music's better too. There- got that off my chest!
I used to have stage fright (still do actually) so I can sympathise with yer man, but I think it's high time Derek took some councelling and started to look his fare paying passengers in the eye. I don't mind a fella focusing on his fretboard and if you are conducting your drummer like Omar Rodriguez Lopez does that's OK too, but Derek needs to assume a tiny bit of what he has loaded on to Susan. Still 'n all- playing like that I can and will forgive him anything! Respect is due Mr. T.

Leonard Cohen's Bird On A Wire is a much covered song - The Neville Brothers did a beautiful version of it, so did Joe Cocker, which I am guessing is where the TTB got it from. Willie Nelson's version is lovely too, but my absolute favourite recording of Bird On A Wire has to be Johnny Cash's solo recording on the American Recordings album in 1994.
