Hi All
At the end of March David Gilmour's guitar collection (that is being auctioned off in NYC in June) will be on display for 3 days at Christie's London. i am planning a trip to view them - without any chance of purchasing i may add. Does anyone know if the are likely to be in glass cabinet's? My Friend going with me is a brilliant photographer and it would be a shame to miss out getting a few good pics.
Regards
Jono

Hi Jono
It’s a long time since I was at a Christie’s guitar auction, but I am pretty sure the guitars will not be in glass cabinets. They will be displayed on stands grouped in years, tours, albums...etc.
The catalogue will be available in advance and I recommend you buy it. It will guide you through the instruments on display and be a collectors item in years to come.
Don’t be surprised if you are not allowed to photograph the guitars as it is not an exhibition, it is a sale room. They probably would rather you buy the catalogue, which will be a beautifully put together glossy coffee table type of book.
Oh and don’t cough, twitch, or scratch your head, or you might find that you are the proud owner of Fender Stratocaster #001. 🎶😉

I’m always a bit surprised when these collections go up for sale. These instruments must mean so much to him, must be hard to let them go. He probably doesn’t need the cash. I’ve often considered myself Bob Dylan’s biggest fan so if he does the same I’ll write him and ask for a discount

They're being sold for charity.Pretty altruistic gesture I'd say and the man's attitude is spot on. More info HERE
