OK--I was at a bit of a loose end earlier (that's my excuse) and watched 'Celebrity Mastermind'. One of the specialist subjects was Robert Johnson. I scored eight points--not as much as the contestant though. Test your knowledge HERE.

eight for me, the questions must be a bit easier as it is a celebrity episode.

I got them all except the name of the photographer's studio. I would have been surprised if I hadn't as I have been studying RJ's music and reading about him for longer than the contestant has been on this earth.
Good fun. Can we do some others please?

Am I right in thinking the RJ and the devil story was made up by Son House etc in the 60s? During the blues revival No record of the story any earlier than that

I had never really heard of any of that devil at the crossroads stuff until relatively recently. There were a few mentions of it in Sam Charters and Paul Oliver's work, but nothing that made it out to be important. I don't think Son House had anything to do with it, he wouldn't have been interested in any of that, but I do remember that when Steve LaVere took control of the estate and created King of Spades Music that a lot of things happened and changed. In 1986 when the Crossroads movie was released, it really promoted the whole 'devil' thing. Then in 1989, photos appeared just in time for the 'Complete Recordings' Columbia Legacy box set's release in 1990... and so on. It is still going on. Cynical, me....NEVER!

For those forum members not in the UK, Hinge & Bracket were an eccentric English duo Now...how did we we get from a Robert Johnson Mastermind quiz to Hinge & Bracket? Perhaps we should ask our administrator to stick closer to the subject matter ....OOPS! Shine On Michael

I read that the crossroads thing was originally attributed to Tommy Johnson. I think it was in David Evans biography of Tommy Johnson and was from his brother LaDell.
