Hi Fred and all the gang at Slide Planet HQ,
Your project is a great idea & I wish you lots of success with it.
I have not heard of any of the musicians involved in this project, so I am interested to hear it.
I do have a rule about 'commercial advertizing' on this forum, but because your album is being offered as a FREE download with a polite request for voluntary donations, I am not sure if Slide Planet is a commercial venture? Your promotional copy certainly reads as a commercial venture.
Many of our forum members are in the slide guitar business; either as musicians or instrument & accessories manufacturers, so it is an area that I am very careful about and have to keep a fair balance. Otherwise the forum could become like the Sunday newspapers suppliments and be over-run with advertizing.
I do hope you understand my concerns.
Shine On, Michael

Hi Michael, Thanks, and oops - I didn't think of it as advertising for a moment as it is very much a labour of love offered for free. I understand your point completely and took out the bit about voluntary donations from the launch text. Slide Planet is not a commercial venture, just a platform for slide guitar music, but we do have the donations feauture as a means for those who would like to support the artists. I hope it is fine to announce future releases here too - they will all be free to download. Cheers, Fred

Hi Fred, Thanks for your understanding. I am very supportive of what you are doing with Slide Planet. As I said...It's a great idea, but I do see it as a commercial venture; a sampler, promoting what you and the other guys (some of whom are professional recording artists) are doing. On another note and related to the Slide Planet free downloads; have you published & protected the material on the Slide Planet website? There are only two categories of recorded material - original works / non-original works. Original works should be protected so nobody can steal (steel ) your work. Once again, thanks for understanding. Shine On Michael

Yesterday I downloaded the Slide Planet tracks and have been listening to the album while driving around in my car this morning. As a professional recording artist I do not believe I should write reviews of other musicians work, but I will say that Slide Planet volume one is worth listening to. What interests me is how the influences have shifted from older players to more recent touring & recording artists like Bob Brozman, Kelly Joe Phelps, Debashish Bhattacharya, Ben Harper and one or two others. I guess David Lindley is an influence here too. I am sure that Sylvester Weaver, Sol Hoopii and Brother Oswald would have approved Shine On Michael

Thanks for your support Michael!
Regarding the copyright, it states on the artwork and on the Slide Planet website that the copyright is owned by the individual artists and "All rights reserved". I guess that's all one can do on the website, or? With regards to each artist copyrighting their work, I guess it is up to each of us to do the old "post-it-to-yourself-by-special-delivery-mail" thing. It would be interesting to hear your experience as a professional musician with these issues!
Thanks!
Fred
