hello and seasons greetings all,
saw that MU has some nos cones on sale and figured I'd share it. I'm having a bit of trouble posting a link, but I found them on Gbase on Matts store pages.
all best,
jeff

Hi there ! It what sense NOS cones ? You can’t be talking vintage 1930’s National cones Assuming not, which brand are you talking about Hello Dr. Snakehips, Sorry bout dat... new old I pad and I cannot figure out how to copy the link...yet if you go to gbase and search for " national 9 1/2" spiral cone " one should pop up from MU as the first result. Cant ascertain the exact vintage from his description but I can only assume vintage 30's would be a bit more expensive. a search for a National 9 1/2" tall spiral cone comes up with an intrigue... I had no idea there was such a thing. Another topic for another thread. All best, jeff PS heres the description from the site... "Here it is: the replacement resonator guitar cone that everyone wants, nice and fresh. 9-1/2” dia., with spirals, correct for just about every Duolian, Triolian, and tons of others, forever. Found here in storage for years, packed away and untouched. Has the famous National “shield” logo impressed right on it, also impressed on its nice fresh biscuit with never-cut saddle. $75" im about to talk myself into forgoing food for a week and buying a cone I don't really need... typical 😜

Jeff, Thanks for sharing this. As far as I know these are non-spiral OMI/Quarterman cones. These days there are other options, but back in the olden days there were no spares available, apart from these.

Shine On Michael I dunno Michael, as of 10am est or so there were two cones listed as "old" 9.5 inch spiral with the national logo stamped on them. He does have a couple without spirals. The cones are interspersed among other items which I assume is a function of chronology. Seems Matt U has more than a few pages of listings with both the keywords, national and cone. I'm going to have to get to my old computer to copy the particular link. All I see is either the gbase.com or an abbreviated version of the particular page links. I can't even copy them manually. What ever happened to being able to view source HTML... Progress? ... I'll get to it during the nights insomnia 🌛 Jeff

Hi Jeff,
If a cone has the National shield logo stamped into it, that means it is an NRP cone from the past 20 or so years. The original National company did not stamp their name or logo into any of their cones. I don’t know the exact year, but at some point around 20 years ago NRP started stamping their cones with their logo.

They just look like standard NRP cones. Since NRP still make cones and some would argue have improved the design/material when switching to their Hot Rod cone I can't see why someone one would want to buy NOS unless the price was attractive. How do you tell the difference between the old NRP cones and the Hot Rod cones? www.gbase.com/gear/national-9-1-2-spiral-cone-w-biscuitThe seller should really be listing them as NRP cones to avoid confusion.

Thanks Michael and Purpleorange for clarifying... I thought something looked a little too good as the price is about the same as a new one.
I'd be flying blind without y'all. Once again, saved by the forum and your willingness to share the mystic secrets of the resonator guitar. 🎶

Shine On Michael Um there were spares!!!!!!!!! in 1981 while traveling the south I happened upon two unused cones National ones with the spirals and two unused biscuits in a tattered old box with a label stating- "National stringed instruments" they were like new and stuck together! I have both installed in my National and NRP wood body,,,,I would never say never! LOL Those cones in the link must be NRP cones if they have a National shield stamp,,,,, Kenny,,,,,,

NRP cones were slightly lower in the beginning, then not sure in which time period the made them a lot taller! then finally not sure the year again made the "hot rod' ones were almost the same height as most vintage National cones,,,,,,,,,,,, Kenny,,,,,,,,
