Apparently it's national album day on Saturday. Difficult decisions I know. How about we narrow it down a bit and pick an album whose guitaring we like most. For enjoyment mostly, but influence as well. I'll start off with Bo Diddley Rides Again, although all of Bo's early albums had the same effect: DANCE!
Best wishes to you all, John

Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band - Hand Clappin, Foot Stompin, Funky-Butt ... Live!
Having seen them live that's when I discovered it was all about entertainment, having a good time (the band and the punters) and not disappearing up where the sun don't shine.
Havin' fun.
For guitaring it's got to be Jeff Beck - You Had It Coming. Nadia and Rollin' and Tumblin' on one album? WOW!
PD.

Oh dear- lists...
Anyway, I'd go for "Funhouse" by Danny Gatton. I just never tire of playing it.

For me, it's got to be Rory Gallagher's "Irish Tour '74", or "Live in Europe" - I can't put a fag paper between them. Perhaps Irish Tour because it's a double album (twice as much Rory!)

Purely one person's opinion but Irish Tour '74 is a good candidate for one of the best for live recorded guitar. Not so much the tone but the sympathetic way it was placed to the fore in the mix. I segued "Million Miles Away" and "Walk On Hot Coals" only yesterday.

In the 60s there were not too many LPs around with the complete works of any artist. Robert Johnson King of the Delta Blues Singers seemed to show a dedicated Blues player at his best. Just about every song was emotionally powerful, well crafted and brilliantly played . This became ,for many, the Album.
A few other tracks were available on compilations, but none seemed as ‘good’ .
Then came RJs other numbers on CBS, and most were underwhelming. Along with some alternative takes of the earlier release most seemed lacking in power . RJ was an entertainer! as well as a Blues guitarist. If you have a ‘Complete Works of RJ’ I recommend you make a play-list of the old CBS titles and just play those, then you will see why people like E.Clapton (and me for a long time) think of RJ as King of the Delta Blues Singers.
