Hi all !
Anyone going to the Colne Great R&B Festival this bank holiday weekend ? Should be good as the weather looks like it might be nice.
I'll be there sporting my new Elmore Kay acoustic (at our "Mud In Your Ear" gigs at Colne), all restored by Celine and Dave at Luthier's Corner, Denmark St, London.
I have been obsessed with getting one of these Kay guitars for years. Got the internet and found eBay 7 years ago. Have been searching almost daily for those 7 years and finally I found one. I have seen 5 or 6 of the jumbo version of this guitar, with the same headstock but other than Elmore's Kay, and now the one I have, I have never seen another dreadnought Kay of exactly this model, with this same headstock. It must have been a rare model - headstock design must have changed quite often.
It has really been brought back to life - I am really impressed with the work Celine did to that guitar. It has come out real solid and reliable.
I've got my Elmore pickup on it now, since taking these pictures. Here it is :

Now I have a pair of 1940's Kay's. They are made much better quality than the later 50's and 60's Kays.

Saturday afternoon+evening at the Lord Darnley, Colne (Roadhouse venue) should be good as there will umpteen National guitars there - between myself, my band mate, plus Jim Murray, Lee Bates, Graeme Robinson and who knows who else ? !!!!!
See ya there !
