July is the crucial month for Gibson, they have been slipping down the quality pole of late.

IMHO Gibson has been slipping down the quality pole for a few decades.
Considering what they did to the iconic and wonderful "Dobro" name and range of instruments, and the disgusting way they treated John Dopyera Junior over the use of the "D" word in his personal life, I am not sorry to see them crumble.

Carrying on from Michael's comments it would be good if someone bought Dobro from Gibson, then bring it back to life as they have the most interesting back catalog.

The destruction of the "D" brand was 100% intentional and personal. IMHO it was the reason for buying the company. If they go bankrupt, the "D" brand will be very low on the official receiver's list of priorities.
I have heard a rumour that Joe Bonamassa is trying to take control of the "Les Paul" part of the company.

Michael. what was the story with Gibson and John Junior ?

John's house, the Dopyera family home, was called "Dobro Acres", but sometime around 1998/9 the Gibson company decided that it was illegal use of their "D®" word and took John to court over it. Needless to say, he lost against the giant G company and was forced to change the name of his home. At the time John was an old man and whatever the company's legal department thought, they should have left him alone. FFS!
The battle between the "G" company and the "D" company goes back a long way.
I hate Gibson because of what they did to John and because of the way they destroyed the Dobro® brand.

Good to have you fill in the gaps Michael. It would have been the 'classy' thing to do, unfortunately that isn't always the way of the world!
Comin' back to bite their arse now isn't it! How does the saying go 'be nice to people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way down'.
Best wishes to you all, John

What a nasty and petty thing to do. You'd think they'd be happy to have a free advert.
Gibson have produced some great instruments over the years, but Orville Gibson left in the early 1900's and it's been a corporate business ever since.
They've had a few golden eras and some pretty dire ones too, generally when the money men had a say in how ther products were made. I remember my Guitar-mender showing me the inside of a 70's Jumbo he was trying to repair. The bracing was so heavy the Guitar had rattled itself apart instead of flexing.
