I bought a Taylor acoustic 2 years ago and while it sounds great played as an acoustic, I really don't like the sound plugged in using the Taylor expression system. I was thinking about fitting a decent soundhole pickup. However I don't really want to drill another hole in the guitar if it can be avoided. Does anyone know if it's possible to connect another pickup in parallel with the existing system so that either or both can be used together.

I have a Taylor 614 which I did not like the amplified sound... Until I tried another amp. Originally I was using a Marshall class5 with a open back cab loaded with a boogie black shadow. Both the amp and speaker are reviewed as having a heavy and dark sound... The mud I was hearing out of the guitar when amplified confirmed this. The Beard guitar in my avatar also sounded purty darned bad in the same bass heavy way... My Taylor is all maple and I was looking for an articulate high end and was disappointed to the point of not playing the guitar that much... Never through an amp. I have a "few" amps and I am now using a Mesa blue angel with Celestion vintage 10s or a dean Markley cd60 with a c-12 and both guitars sound much much better. If you haven't tried other amps you may want to before surgery. All best, Jeff p.s. is 8 guitar amps too many ?

In answer to Malc's original question ; Afaik, the least intrusive way would be to use the original hole and replace the jack with a stereo (trs) jack...
...The issues of separate controls as well as needing two inputs at least is a good reason ( rationale for the Mrs. ) for the purchase of another amp if you don't already have more than one.

I have one of the expression systems in a T5 - I'm using a home made buffer ( basically a zero gain preamp ) pedal which makes a great deal of difference - I wonder if its an impedance mismatch? If I use it through a TC VoiceLive it sounds good too.

Thanks for the comments and interest. I have a Loudbox performer which I think I'll stick with as it sounds fine with my Ovation Balladeer. And another amp might get me into serious trouble with my boss. Thanks Jeff Actually don't think I've heard a better sounding (to my ears) electro acoustic than the Ovation. Think the buffer may be the way to go before trying anything to drastic. Thanks Bob.
