Hi all,
I'm working on this wonderful tune, and it is a pure joy to play.
Can anyone help me by transcribing the lyrics? It would be very appreciated, thank you!

I remember this UK visit and can't believe that it was twenty five years ago. I think Rainer recorded 29 Palms with Robert Plant on the same trip, or maybe a few months earlier. I was touring with Rhythm Oil at the time and was unable to go to the Weavers in Islington because we were playing that night.
I first became aware of Rainer Ptacek when his 'Rainer & Das Combo - Barefoot Rock' album was released in 1986. Then it all went a bit quiet for a few years until 'Worried Spirits' was released. Rainer was a great and original talent, and tragically died far too young at 46 years old. His day job was working as a guitar repairer in Tuscon.
I would need to hear a clearer recording to hear all the lyrics. There must be a Rainer Ptacek fan out there somewhere that has transcribed it?
Shine On Michael.

I'd be inclined to use the original Langston Hughes words
.

So many thanks to everyone.
I was cheking Madeleine Peyroux, too, but did not find the link myself, and did not know about Langstone Hughes: thanks!
Yes Michael, he was a true artist and he was real, and his recordings are a joy and an infinite discover.

Hi all, I'm working on this wonderful tune, and it is a pure joy to play. Can anyone help me by transcribing the lyrics? It would be very appreciated, thank you! a great talent, life is fine on the worried spirits cd, is very close to the bbc live performance. also on the worried spirits cd is another langston hughes inspired track. waves of sorrow. on the rainer and das combo cd ,is an elecktric guitar version of life is fine. i do a version, but in open d minor tuning. also i change the lyrics to suit my playing and singing. transcribing a piece of music is a great way, to understand the feel and structure of a piece. my usual approach is to come up with different music, that retains the emotional feel. i also change the lyrics slightly, if i feel i need to. the twangly sound at the beginning of rainers song is a looper. rainer was brilliant at using a looper. i bought one!. it couldnt keep time with my playing, obviously a faulty looper, not me, HA HA. there is a lovely chord that rainer plays. by fretting the third string behind the slide, which is a flat third in open d or e tuning, in open g or a it would be the second string. and adding the first string fretted one step down from the flatted third. strumming up with the finger. i change the words of life is fine, from hollered, to howled, and doggoned to damned. being an english hobby player, i make things fit my limited talent, and sensibilitys. so i sing. i climbed a highe tower, 16 floors above ground, thought about my baby, thought i might jump down, you may hear me howle, you may even see me cry, but ille be damned if your ever gonna see me die for love. i am working intermitantly on a piece of rainer music from an arena arts program, its called curse of the fire beetle. it has vanished, and is unavailable, luckily i managed to record the audio. i will only transcribe the bare bones, as like the nocturnes music, there is some multitracking going on which tends to muddy the waters.

I saw Rainer when he was in London, it was amazing to see him use the loop pedal to build up the songs, stop playing and take a drink whilst it all carried on !!!
I was sitting about ten feet away from him and and got a close up view although my Dad who I took with me was not as a big fan and persuaded me to leave early to drive out of London.
I have since learnt to go solo to a lot of gigs !!!
