Hi Gang!
Im looking for original 30s era lead sheets for a couple of tunes in particular, in general maybe a book on songs and music from the "great" depression that is oriented to guitar? Any old reso players protest, satire stuff from the era as well
In particular "happy days are here again" and " brother can you spare a dime."
I can't find anything Guitar centric, I know it's a stretch... Thanks for any input.
All Best,
Jeff
PS, I know there's lots of results from web searching, I am hoping someone's got some actual experience as a lot of the results are less than original or just plain commercial click bait...

Hi Jeff
I just found this. I haven't played through and checked if it's correct, but I think is. There's no melody TAB or score with this one.
Brother Can You Spare A Dime Words & Music by E.Y. Harburg & Jay Gorney Recorded by Bing Crosby, 1932
Am E7 A7 Once I built a railroad, made it run,
D G7 C E7 Made it race against time;
Dm/F E7 Am F7 Once I build a railroad -- now it's done.
Dm6 E7 Am Brother, can you spare a dime?
Am E7 A7 Once I built a tower to the sun,
D G7 C E7 Brick and rivet and lime;
Dm/F E7 Am F7 Once I build a tower -- now it's done.
Dm6 E7 Am Brother, can you spare a dime?
Bridge:
A7 Once, in khaki suits, gee, we looked swell,
Gm6 A7 Full of that Yankee Doodle de-dum;
D7 Half a million boots went sloggin' through Hell --
Am F7 E7 I was the kid with the drum.
Am E7 A7 Say, don't you remember, they called me Al?
D G7 C E7 It was Al all the time.
Dm/F E7 Am F7 Say, don't you remember? I'm your pal.
Dm6 E7 E7+5 Am Buddy can you spare a dime?

Happy Days Are Here Again chords 1929 Milton Ager (music) and Jack Yellen (lyrics)

G Happy days are here again,
The skies above are clear again, D D7 Let us sing the song of cheer again, G C G Happy days are here again.
G All together, shout it now,
There's no one who can doubt it now, D D7 We will tell the world about it now, G C G Happy days are here again!
Bm Your cares and troubles are gone, Am D D7 There'll be no more from now on,
G Happy days are here again,
The skies above are clear again, D D7 Let us sing the song of cheer again, G C G Happy days are here again.
Bm Your cares and troubles are gone, Am D D7 There'll be no more from now on,
G Happy days are here again,
The skies above are clear again, D D7 Let us sing the song of cheer again, G C G Happy days are here again.
G All together, shout it now,
There's no one who can doubt it now, D D7 We will tell the world about it now, G C G Happy days are here again!

Hi Michael, Thanks for a supersonic speedy response... Man that was fast and much appreciated! I'm trying to work em out from those chord progressions and as I'm in my infancy of interval training and trying to earball those melodies, it's been both and frustrating to try and figure out a fingerpicking arrangement. I'm down with the rumph rumph all downstrokes rhythm guitar playing of those times and getting somewhere at least... My singing is pesticidal, but I'm tryin Back to the lab, all best, Jeff

I think I may have found a resource... Leon Redbone ! He played a couple gigs at a club I worked sound at back in the stoned ages. Dont have a solid recollection of those times but At least I remember him as a brilliant finger stylist and a treasure trove of tin pan alley and 30s tunes. Ordered a couple CDs from amazon as my Christmas gift to myself... Hope to be makin whoopie soon ! Or at least playin at it All best, Jeff

My pleasure!
Leon Redbone is great. I first became aware of him in 1979 at a jazz & blues festival in London, Capital Jazz Festival. There was a blues day that finished up with Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter and Chuck Berry, and started up at midday-ish with Leon Redbone. He really impressed the 23 year old me and I bought a few of his albums.
Enjoy!
