Thanks Snakey π I was wondering if they were made for 12 string guitars πΈ. As you pointed out, by choosing which hole you use you can avoid string clashes. Removing the 6th and 5th strings was a bit of a pain, strings bent double I had to work an electrical screwdriver in to lever them off the posts! Not a relaxing afternoon! I shall be visiting my friend Captain Morgan when I finish! Thanks for the help π

The 2 holes make it so much harder, especially with the thicker strings. Looking along at the other posts the last person to restring has thought 'sod this' and used one hole. Think that's wot I'll be doing! A design that didn't catch on?

Sorry TT I seem to have jumped your thread. Same guitar subject though so hope you don't mind ππΈ I've just started restringing the 12 string with 12-54s from Newtones . I've never seen string posts like these before so thought I'd ask about them. I suppose l will just copy the way it's strung now, are they unusual and made like this for a specific purpose? Any comments and advice welcome as always. Best wishes to you all, John

As far as I can tell these two were built circa 1930's on different sides of the Atlantic. More than a passing similarity wouldn't you say? Posted for a bit of fun and interest. If anyone knows how to set pictures and text could you please share! I'm sure I'm not alone in wondering.... Best wishes to you all, John

Sad news Michael. I have to admit north Yorkshire in November has been beyond my stamina! You have done some further south (of Watford would be nice) so if you did have thoughts along those lines I'm pretty sure it would be well attended. If price needs to be adjusted so be it. How about a poll guys. This is in no way intended to put you on the spot Michael.

Good stuff Vestapol π This is a subject that has obviously captured your imagination! I think with your research and Michael's first hand knowledge, along with contributions from other forum members we must have a very good idea as to how these instruments were developed. Interesting stuff.
Best wishes to you all, John
