Hello Y'all, Im looking to try out some Michael Messer reso strings and am wondering if there are any places to purchase them here in Louisiana (or america if need be) other than Mail Order. I prefer to support the small retailer (Todds in Metairie) but if it's the only option, I'll go the mail route. Any recommendations or caveats re mail order options appreciated as well. I've done a bit of searching here and on the web with no luck... pls pardon if this is old hat. Thanks and all da best ! j

Hi Creolian - I don't know about Louisiana but For online American you could try juststrings.com or stringsandbeyond.com in America and if they are out at either of those places I get mine through stringsdirect.co.uk via paypal - they arrive from UK fairly quickly.

Hi Creolian, why not ask your local guy to stock some Newtones, MM of course! Could start a trend! Best wishes to you all, John

If Newtone strings appear to be made from unobtanium where you come from, you could try DR strings. They manufacture round core strings too, but the same caveat exists regarding not cutting them to length beforehand, and they too hide the warning away on the inside the cardboard packet! I don't know what gauges are available because I use Newtones. YMMV of course.

Incidentally, I have fitted Newtones to Kluson type machine heads with the slot and hole arrangement. After bending the string WITH PLIERS at the chosen length I can cut off the unwanted length to go down the hole and I have never experienced a problem. Making a 90° bend crushes the windings tightly together and prevents unravelling. Well for me it does so as already stated YMMV / caveat emptor.

Well here's a list of stockists including USA in case they work out with testing. I don't know how stocking works if you you don't know which ones to ask for - maybe just ask the local store to to order a selection? I've been using them exclusively for about 4 years and have found the MM's are popular in the US in the larger stockists I mentioned earlier, and often back ordered as I think people by them in multiples when they come in - I know I order them in 5-6 packs at a time. www.newtonestrings.com/stockists/Best, Harriet

Thanks ! I missed stocklist as that's not a common term here... The few I've checked so far stock newtones but don't list reso strings. Looks like its going to be mail order for these.
Best, J

Looks like they are fully stocked at juststrings.com, but as an FYI their website doesn't automatically update, so if you want them from there, you might consider giving them a call.

You could contact Newtone Strings direct, they really are great people to deal with, postage takes a little longer as they actually make your strings to order, personal custom gauges NO extra cost. Brand new fresh bronze strings are beautiful to behold. With stockist you don't know how long they've stored them or in what conditions

Hi guys, just a thought, if any of you decide to order directly from Newtone strings (I do no problems) than may I suggest that as well as the MM's you might check out their heritage series. These are ideal for vintage guitars or any instruments you might be worried about in respect of putting to much pressure on the neck. Excellent product, highly recommend. I've no connection with Newtone, just a happy customer! Best wishes to you all, John
