Just restringing MM Blues 28 with MM National strings. the 6th and 4th sounded really dull/muffled. 5th was OK. I replaced with a different make and 6th and 4th sounded fine (same diameter strings) I assume this is an issue with the string - just coincidence it was the first time I'd used the "nickel wound". Not sure how it happens - just wondered if anyone had ever experienced the same thing? any hints? otherwise Ill have to post them back, though they came from Strings Direct not Newtone
cheers

Hi jonnybees,
It is probably due to the strings unravelling before they were tuned to pitch. Did you cut them before or after they were tuned?
I have been using Newtone strings on every one of my guitars for 24 years and on all MM guitars for 9 years. I have used literally thousands of sets and I can only recall a handful of faulty strings in all that time.
If you are worried that the product was faulty, contact Neil at Newtone Strings about it.

sugar $%&*! I think that's what it is - just seen the warning/instruction on the back of the pack! (they could make it bigger.....and/or make it clear what "unravel" means - they don't "Look" unravelled at all, and the term just suggests a bit of untidy/visual unravelling at th eend, not an impact on the sound). Thanks tho Michael I am guessing that's the explanation

Hi Jonnybees,
You make an interesting point about the warning being made more bold on the package.
We are in fact, for the first time in 24 years of MM Newtone Strings, currently redesigning the package and your comment has been taken on board.
What gauges and material were the strings that unravelled?

It was the 015" set; the 6th and 4th strings . For some reason the 5th was fine. Glad to have been of some help! Cheers

I bloody love these strings! use Newtone nickels on my acoustic too, no phos-bronze in my life and it's better for it.
