Could anybody offer some advice at the cheap end of the street, I am looking at either the Vintage AMG2 or the Regal RC51, as I understand things these are two of the best entry level tri cones, any advice much appreciated, also is it worth getting the Pete Woodman upgrade?
Are there any others in the same sort of >£600 range worth looking at
Really enjoy the site.
Regards
Tommo

Hi Tommo Well, I started with a Vintage tricone 4 years ago. For the money, the neck was great, tuners good, the attention to workmanship is pretty good, sound is pretty authentic blues. The first revelation for me, and it should have been obvious, was that it weighs a ton as its made out of nickel plated bell brass! As an entry level steel guitar you can't go wrong, i've used it on recording sessions and its come out really nicely. I did consider getting a cones upgrade via the LRC, but then I got the opportunity to buy a very nice Continental, so I used my spare cash for that. My Vintage tricone will be going on ebay shortly, but if you are interested please contact me off-list, I'll send some pics etc. Cheers the slider

Hi Tommo,
Welcome to our forum.
I am currently a little out of touch with all the latest budget resophonic guitars that are available. I would recommend you call Ron at the London Resonator Centre, he is very good at getting the right guitar for each customer. Also talk to Pete Woodman on the Isle of Man (He is a regular contributor to this forum) - and talk with as many forum members as you can. The guitar that SilverSlider is selling looks like a good one to consider.
Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
Shine On, Michael.

Keep an eye out for the Continental/AXL tricones which are German Silver with a quality maple/walnut neck. A few of thee crop up on Ebay from European dealers and would be just about in the £600 bracket. Regards Lee.

Hi Tommo,
Thank you for your kind words about our little online community.
Lee is right about the Continental/AXL Tricones. They are a very good buy, if you can find one. SilverSlider's Vintage Tricone also sounds like a good guitar. The fact that SilverSlider has been playing this guitar for a couple of years is in its favour. A resophonic guitar that has been played and treated well for a year or two is better than a new one.....but not as shiny!
Keep in touch,
Shine On, Michael.
