Here are a couple of acoustic slide videos I recorded quite a while back. The Washburn I no longer have, but it worked well as a slide guitar. It's a reissue of the old Washburn parlour guitars, all solid wood but with X bracing rather than ladder. It has a very growly slide tone, sounds quite different to most modern made guitars. They have nice wide necks too.
The other is my trusty Martin 000M, it's a lovely guitar that isn't made anymore but you can get them used for a good price. I tend to use it for Ry Cooder style stuff. Like I said earlier though, my 30's L-00 is still my go-to guitar for acoustic slide.

Thanks again for the recommendations and videos!! much appreciated. The cheaper Martins are a possibility, been checking out ebay etc. The washburn parlour sounds good and the wide fretboard would suit me. I will also do a search for the Harmony. Cheers.

I have the Washburn that is a couple models up from the one in that video (all solid wood) and I love it. It has the best neck for slide of all the guitars I've had. Love it! Really nice slide tone too. I always try various acoustics when I'm in guitar shops and I totally agree with the poster who said that the really expensive ones tend to not sound as good with slide as some of the less expensive models. I recently played a couple Breedlove parlors that sound really nice too.

I'm pretty sure the one I had was the top of the line - the R320swrk, its all solid wood, spruce top and rosewood back and sides. I agree the necks are great for slide, lots of room for fingerpicking and nice flat radius, I love the pronounced V too. Kind of wish I still had it.

Hi That martin sounds really nice al Thanks BB, I've played many much more expensive Martins and I would put my OOOM up against any of them, just has a really rich tone especially for the size.

Sorry, you are correct. I forgot that the top of the line and the lowest priced ones both have ornate (but different) fretboards. I've got the anniversary edition one which is the same as yours minus the tree of life type fretboard. I actually wish mine had a little something on the fretboard! Funny story about mine. I bought it used and online. Had it shipped Fed-x and insisted on insurance, which was only 75 cents per $100. It was damaged when it arrived and I filed a claim.. They paid the entitle insured amount, which covered the cost of the guitar, the repair (which is almost undetectable) plus a K&K pure pickup and installation! Score!

No worries, easy to get confused when they bring so many similar looking models out! Wow, one time an insurance company delivers the goods, nice! Funny you should say that about the fretboard as I really liked the tree of life inlay at first but then I went off it a bit and wished I had a plainer one like yours. I actually started looking at the anniversary ones on eBay but never pulled the trigger on one. Maybe I'll get one some day.

Hi, I have a 0-15 Martin that is great for slide. I bet it is, I love those small bodied Martins. I did have a 00-15m but sold it to fund my Kopp 35. I wish I could have kept it, but finances didn`t allow me to.

Hello wezzywest,
For acoustic slide I have a Kay Deluxe from the 1930's. It has an arched top and is ladder braced. Because of it's age I use 10's. I had a local luthier set it up for slide so it plays and sounds great. It has a very boxy old blues tone. Check out daddystovepipe on YouTube. Great videos.
Kindest Regards, MississippiBlue

Guitars: Another vote for vintage ladder-braced parlour guitars. Lightly-built and made of birch yields a recognisably classic blues sound (by the bucket load). That said, I had a vintage (circa 1900) Washburn rosewood and spruce parlour for a while, wasn't the finger-picking delight that I'd hoped for, but was fantastic for slide! Mike Savage: Doesn't have a website. He does sometimes put a few bits on eBay uk - guitarman*2007, but the best way to get hold of him is by phone. Don't think I've ever reached him via the landline, but plenty of success with his mobile number, which he is happy to have given out here: 07901727557 Bit of a jaunt to get to Kings Lynn from most places, but worth the trek. While the pictures at the other end of this link are a few years old, they do reflect the kind of stock he generally has michaelmesser.proboards.com/post/50282 He has been known to have the odd OS Stella (he had two on the wall when I was up there last year) and various other brands, but is something of an enthusiast for Harmony Supertones. And as Blueshome has indicated, not about the high end of the market - but good for reliably playable instruments at a reasonable price (I got my fully-repaired Supertone for £400, including discounts for cash and collection in person). Ironic. Mike is about 15 miles from me and I have never been to see his collection.

Thanks for the replies. Mississippiblue, Daddy stovepipe is a great player, I love his channel. Some nice guitars in his collection. Bod, Thanks for the info. Mike does seem like man to see, the link to the photos is appreciated, some nice guitars there. I will definitely consider him. Manchester to Kings Lynn!! Now that is a trek! Thanks again, Cheers.
