OK for silver, Rik, in a pretty light variation. Duco frosted finishes are not easy to photograph, and depending the light of the shot, it can be tricky to recognize. By the way, I remember of another duolian with a particularly light color (almost white, depending the photos). As I cannot charge the pictures, here's a link. Mark made at one time a reference to a cream frosted duco finish (but it was about a Silvertone duolian). Now, I would be curious to see such an exemplar to compare with the (light) silver one.

This is my fairly recent acquisition. I love it. And unfortunately it needed a fret job. My repair guy said that nationals of this vintage often had pear wood for fingerboards. It's very hard but it's also very brittle. When you try and pull the frets out it just turns to sawdust. He replaced it with an ebony fingerboard. He didn't amazing job with the binding and everything else. It plays like new and sounds fantastic!

That Brown finish tenor was if I am not mistaken on Lennys vintage National site, I know Lenny has been on the ropes of late but it was good while it lasted. Did you get the guitar from lenny or elsewhere??

Click on these to see them better. Here's a silver frosted Duco with a gold edge burst from 1936. It's hard to get a good photo. Most end up looking like galvanized metal that's been rattle-canned gold on the edges. Cheers, Steve

Hi there ! Does it have noxious chemicals in it that you have to be very careful with (hazardous to health, flammable etc etc)

View AttachmentJust a couple of examples of finishes I have created, I am purchasing a large quantity of the base material for this paint. Hello crystalz, Welcome to our forum. It is an interesting, but strange post for someone that has just joined the forum. I am not quite sure that I understand your reason for posting, is it a news item, or an advert? Please clarify this point. Shine On Michael.

Hi there !
I had a look online, by searching this chap’s MM username - and easily found a company who produce a set of paints to achieve a duco type paint finish, plus youtube videos how to do the actual painting. Looks like where ever the are from (Australia ?) they are 8ntending on rolling it out into other countries.

Seems like the magic ingredient is urea dissolved in water and propanol with a flow /evaporation control agent?
i.e DNA Custom Paints Mutant CrystalZ from Australia.
Now to find out if this stuff is freely available in the UK.

I also found the same information, but was hoping to give this person the benefit of the doubt and a chance to say hello. Sadly neither has happened, so I have to assume it is the beginnings of a duco business and that the person has no interest in communicating, just sees us like fairground ducks in a barrel.

If there is no response by tomorrow I will delete the post. There is a NO ADVERTISING rule on here and it appears to be being ignored.
