...If you are learning that song, it would be a lot easier if you could see me up close. On that subject, is there any mileage in me offering forum members online Skype lessons? It was something I talked about doing a couple of years ago, but the idea drifted. These days most of us have a good Internet connection and could be helpful to people. Shine On Michael Hi Michael, I've taken the liberty of starting a new thread for this topic. Can you say a little more about what you have in mind / how it might work (etc)?

Definitely interested. I learnt so much from MM at the Acoustic Blues weekend in Pocklington so this would be an ace idea

Wow!!!! I didn't expect such a positive reaction. Thank you.
Seeing how much interest there seems to be in me doing Skype lessons, I am now looking into the best way for me to set this up.
To begin with, I am thinking of offering 30 minute and 60 minute private lessons, and maybe later getting into running group sessions like a conference call. There is also a website called Concert Window, which would be good for group tuition.
Please do make any comments that you think might help me to set this up.
Thanks

I don't know if you would consider a workshop with follow up lessons available by skype 1/2 hour or hour for people who would be interested in it as an idea.

As a complete beginner I'm interested in private lessons initially and then as I progress group sessions would also be appropriate.

I'd certainly be interested but I'm not sure it would work out for me in practice. Skype just on audio can be distinctly ropey here at times, not to mention I don't actually have a webcam. Does anyone know how much data a half hour Skype video call would use? (in language I can understand please ) I don't have a an unlimited data package.

Hi, According to Skype a 30 minute video call would use 135 Mbytes or according to a user it would use 100 Mbytes. Hi Michael,
It must be worth adding to your options.
I would undoubtedly benefit from regular lessons, mainly because I would use them as an incentive to practice but I don't know if you would be interested in that kind of student. I feel I should work through your teaching DVDs first then apply for Skype lessons at a later date.
My experience with Skype is that the connection from the UK to Australia is usually OK for voice but is quite often not good enough for video; I don't know if video calls within he UK fair better.
