Hi again !
I'm on Lenny's emailing list for his business newsletter / updates - and got one today. Along with pictures of current inventorty, was this message :
Assortment of Treasures! Hello Friends, This mailing has an amazing array of unique guitars and ukes. We have some super pre war Martins. An amazingly cool Stella 12 string that plays like butter. 2 used NRP pieces, a Style N 14 with a custom pearloid overlay, and a Style N Uke at a huge discount. We've started the neck build on our custom 1928 Tricone round neck finally. It's getting style 3 fingerboard inlays on it's dark ebony fingerboard. Add in some killer Vintage Nationals like our minty Collegian and early Duolian with new ebony fingerboard. Call for details. Please note, we have moved our shop location and have a new phone number of 805-964-3343. We apologize to anyone that had a hard time contacting us in December as we were partially closed for the month. Hope this finds you well!

Lenny sent me $2,800 and says he will send more shortly. We still a long way to go to make good on my Tricone sale but he seems to be trying.

"We apologize to anyone that had a hard time contacting us in December as we were partially closed for the month. Hope this finds you well!" How strange.I was under the impression that email worked as long as you had a computer and internet connection regardless of the location of your business premises. And what does 'partially closed'mean? You locked the front door but left the back one open or were you working part time? If you are in the market for a vintage National try www.gbase.com/gear?cat=Guitars&subcat=Resonator No business interest I hasten to add--just the fact that I acquired a lovely 1931 Style 1 via this site.

he might be closed for business but you can bet if you tempt him with a vintage national for sale he will soon be in contact with you!he might be a nice guy and did not mean all this to happen ,but when a business is failing self preservation mode kicks in.it looks like he.s robbing Peter to pay Paul, petej

It doesn't matter that the payment has already been made. Contact the credit card company as soon as possible and give them all the details and circumstances of the purchase and your expectation that you will not receive the goods.

To put this in context with other instrument suppliers - I ordered a custom National tricone in 2013 and was told about 12 months for delivery. I have now been waiting for 17 months and still cant get a delivery date.

This custom National was not ordered through Lenny - it was via another National dealer. The delay is not the fault of the dealer, National Resophonic have not yet completed the build.

Well it's been a few months and I've heard nothing from Lenny. He sent me $2,800 on a consigned $7k tricone with the promise to send the balance by check. He never sent any additional funds and has ignored my emails. The only thing that he's been diligent in working on is clearing BBB complaints by claiming that all customer issues are resolved. I don't know what has happened that he has resorted to scamming his customers but be warned if you are considering sending him any instrument on consignment or any form of payment that doesn't have fraud coverage.

Hi again !
That is really disappointing news. I only received a newsletter email from him last week or the week before, announcing some more vintage Nationals for sale : 1. National Style 2 roundneck Tricone. However, other than an occasional roundneck word mention, there is only photographs of the guitar body so far. Nothing on whether is has the original neck, what condition it is in, or if the guitar is to get a new neck instead. 2. A very early 1930 National Style N, all german silver body with Tricone neck. If I had the money, I'd be wary of sending it.
Really disappointed in Lenny now.

Even without all this shenanigans I wouldn't be inclined to buy a guitar from Hot Rod--a lot of them seem to be 'bitsa's' (a neck here,a coverplate there etc).

Gentlemen, I checked out Lenny's new address via google maps, and the poor guy is living in the Santa Barbara hills on an estate that probably is worth $5 Million or so, so I am sure he is depending upon you to send more $$ and instruments, so have faith and help out a struggling merchant...
