Hi All I've finally decided after many years of electric blues to "go back" to where it started and learn blues/bottleneck on a resonator. I remember reading about the MM Resonators in Guitarist magazine a few years ago, good write up and a reasonable price. But, how do you order them, I sent an email to busker guitars a few days ago and have had no response Maybe im just impatient ;D Any ideas on what I need to do?

Hi Geoff ~ don't be concerned, M.M. & Busker resonators are superb instruments & VERY popular indeed. Robin spends an awful lot of his time sorting & setting-up customers instruments over in his workshop and can be away from his computer many days at a time - he WILL respond as soon as he can 'cos he's a great bloke I'm sure Michael will verify this - the difficult part is waiting for your guitar to arrive! Slide On! Ian.

Yes I can vouch for Robin being not only a busy man, but also the email/internet connections up there in the depth of Wales being less than reliable.
I find it best to phone......
But maybe to Robin thats bad advice

Hi Geoff,
First of all I would like to welcome you to our forum and thank you for your interest in MM Resonator Guitars.
I missed your message coming in last night as I was not around, but very kindly, Ian, Andy and Al have stepped in and answered your question. Very much appreciated - thank you Ian, Andy and Al.
Robin and I run the Michael Messer / Busker Guitars company as a two man (and a couple of helpers) business, which is how we manage to keep the prices of our guitars down. No frills!
I apologise for the delay, but I can promise you that Robin will contact you shortly.
Which MM Guitar are you thinking of ordering?
( I have moved this thread into the 'Main Street' section of the forum because I like to keep the MM commercial stuff away from the rest of the forum )
If you have any questions about MM Guitars, or anything to do with learning to play blues bottleneck on resonator guitars, please don't hesitate to ask. If I am not around, there is usually someone online who can help.
Thank you,
Shine On Michael.

Thanks all for your helpful replies. Michael I'm new to all this so bear with me This site/forum all looks such an incredible resource. I'm interested in the MM Lightning, or should that be Lightnin" I'm an experienced player of classical guitar and play in an electric blues (including slide mostly in standard, or a hybrid open G) and a pub rock covers band. But acoustic bottleneck blues is something I've on;y dabbled with in the past (can just about do "walkin blues" and police dog blues on my yamaha acoustic. Time to up my game. . I've got a DVD by Rory Block which is fine, and picked some stuff of youtube, but some tips on instruction would be good, I've looked at Bob Brozmans and Stephan Grossmans DVDs, but they seem bewildering to me. I look forward to hearing from Robin, but I'll be away for a few days now Cheers Geoff

Hi Geoff,
I spoke with Robin this morning and he will reply to your email ASAP.
I am sure you will be more than happy with an MM Lightning / Lightnin', as they are lovely guitars to play.
Regarding your question about tuition; there are so many DVDs and online tuition services these days, that one could lost in it all, so I would ask for recommendations from MM Forum members.
I don't mean to sound like a street market trader, but you might find my tuition DVD of interest, as it rally is aimed at beginners, and shows the basics of playing slide and getting good notes and good tone. The two tutors you have mentioned do make great DVDs that are packed full of information, but it sounds to me like you are not quite ready for those yet.
I hope that helps,
Best wishes,
Shine On Michael

Hi Geoff, That's great - thank you! I wear the slide on my third finger because I find I have more control and it is what I did when I first started. This is a totally personal thing and I would recommend you try both third and fourth fingers to see which you prefer. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. All will be revealed in the tuition DVD Shine On Michael

Hi Geoff ~ Michael's DVD's really are the best for beginner/intermediate slide tuition, and in my experience 95% of all other tuition DVD's tend to be 'showcases' for that particular teachers playing. The exception is Mike Dowling's "Bottleneck Blues & Beyond" 1 & 2, and if it's still available, Steve James' "Acoustic Blues & Slide Guitar". These concentrate on playing tunes, rather than improving technique Slide On! Ian.

Hi Geoff001, I am with Ian on this one. Michael's DVD's are really good. Like you I played electric guitar and only seriously got into slide when I bought a MM Lightning and one of Andy Solloway's Sollofonics last year. Michael's teaching is first rate, clear and gets you away from just playing Elmore James Licks - really good value and I use it regularly and find bits I have missed.... :Really good value. Enjoy ! Jack.

Geoff, I cannot comment on the MM Lightning as I never tried one, but I recently bought a MM Blues 12 from Robin, and it's really a wonderful guitar. I'm rediscovering all the tunes in open tuning that I used to play on my acoustic guitars, they sound great on a reso. I'm not very good with a slide yet, but I'm getting better, and I just ordered Michael's DVD :-)
