Eric Clapton - From the Cradle... Probably my favourite EC album. Five Long Years gives me chills.
The Groundhogs - Split... I've loved this album since I was 16.
Ry Cooder - Chicken Skin Music... Genius. So many great tracks but Yellow Roses is my fave.
Nanci Griffith - Last of the True Believers... Beautiful voice, great songs.
The Cosmic Rough Riders - Enjoy the Melodic Sunshine...A modern psych folk classic from 2000. The Byrds and the Beach Boys meet up for a spliff in Neil Young's back yard.
Wishbone Ash - Wishbone Ash. Their first album and IMHO better than the much better known (and also great) Argus. This is the one record I'd have to have on a desert island. Why weren't these boys huge?
Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee - Brothers in Blues. My dad had this record (but his copy was just called ST & BM) which he got via membership of 'The World Record Club' in the 60s. He never played it, but I loved it and played it to death. This was my introduction to 'real' blues. I've been looking for it on CD for years and never found it but recently got it on download only (unfortunately; I'd rather have the cd) from Amazon. I know some people don't rate Sonny & Brownie, because they are a bit too slick and not rootsy enough, but to me it feels like the return of an old friend.
And lots of Muddy Waters (ie as many variations of I Feel Like Going Home as I can cope with).

Getting into non-resonator territory lately, but great songwriting. 'Frank Sinatra' by the group Cake, 'Baubles, Bangles and Beads' by Frank Sinatra, and 'Return To Me' by Bob Dylan who I have underestimated. All highly recommended.

Just found Maria Muldaur's "Sweet Lovin Ol Soul" from 2005 on the shelf. A really nice album with some great playing on the resos by Steve James and Del Ray, especially on Memphis Minnie's "Crazy Cryin" .

Hey Subtoxin good to know there are some other Cake fans out there Fashion Nugget is great album. Loads of quirky guitar
Prohibition by Gynn Ashton is great too. Saw him a while back at the guitar show in Manchester and he was very good. I see he's recommending Busker guitars now. He seems very keen on them. If they're good enough for him then .............

An interesting thread. Good to see eclectic tastes.
Split is a great album. Sadly Tony McPhee is not in great health at present as he recently suffered another stroke. I did a gig at the 100 Club on 8th January that he couldn't make. Luckily I was able to jump in at very short notice....4 hours!
Wishbone Ash & Pilgrimage are the ones that I remember as great records. I have always enjoyed Nanci Griffith's music. I have met her a few times as she is a friend of my brother, Alan. She is fun to hang out with too.
Lots of other great stuff on this thread.

Sad to hear about Tony McPhee's poor health.
Nanci Griffith is an interesting artist that doesn't quite fit into an easy box, and all the better for it. She's often seen as too folk for country fans and too country for folkies but I love her stuff, particularly the early albums. Other Voices Other Rooms is a fabulous album of covers that I play a lot and is one of the few albums I own that my wife also likes!
I too love Pilgrimage. Nice to hear that you were a Wishbone fan Michael. We are the same age so obviously exposed to a lot of the same stuff (although it sounds like your younger tastes were more eclectic than mine).
I forgot to mention that I have also been listening to Dwight Yoakam's Buenos Nochas from a Lonely Room. Actually none of his early albums are ever far from my player. He was the man that convinced me, in the eighties, that country was worth listening to. Also Live at the Fillmore by the Byrds - Clarence White on fire.

Currently...
Bonnie Raitt's 1st from 1971, great - who says blues is just for men?
Black Snake Moan OST - I recorded the video on sky plus over Xmas and thoroughly enjoyed it - as close to a heaving Juke joint (and ms. Ricci) that this honky will ever get to see.
Apart from that, whatever iTunes pumps at me. It tells me helpfully that I have 4453 tracks that will take 12.2 days to play end-to-end. The next 25 to play include... The Ruts, Albert Collins, Dave Brubeck, Robert Palmer, Chris Thile, Stefan Grossman, Mr Dave and Little Walter plus loads of other 'eclectic' stuff ( my friends are not so charitable in their descriptions).
See some of you guys tomorrow at Slidefest. Drive safely now!
