Hi Percy, JC & Angelina are old friends of mine. What info would you like? I did post some info about them on the forum a while ago, somewhere on here. Also, recently I posted a photo of MM's National Breakdown Service that JC & Angelina were part of. Their website: www.freewebs.com/villagebikerecords/vbhome.htmlShine On Michael

Thats the info I need. Apart from the vids, when I took the quotes off to find out more, I was snowed under with Angelina Jolie.
Now that I have been there - Which CD of theirs is the one to start with?
Cheers P

Carolina Chocolate Drops...wonderful old-timey American music...a complete entertainment too, with buck dancing and the Charleston thrown in for good measure.

Harry Manx ........ ' Bread and Budda ', and I fancied downloading some old Steve Miller tracks of I-tunes; been giving these a listen as well. Stevie...... I love the ' Sopranos ' theme music ' Woke up this morning ' this has got to be one of the best uses of a theme tune when it is played as he is driving his car, It is so fitting to the scenario . Great programme as well

Thanks Michael, I will check those out. 'Woke up This Morning' is a great track - did you realise that it is about a woman in an abusive relationship who shoots her husband? I didn't notice I had to be told!
Yesterday was Show of Hands, Cheryl Crow, Black Rebel MC, and Snow Patrol, 'A Hundred Million Suns' (a gift, along with Muse, from someone who thought I should hear some proper music, its OK, but not really my cup of tea).
Its raining and grey outside my window and I have to write up last nights meeting of the Allotment Society for the Village Magazine so so far this morning its A few tracks from
Robyn Hitchcock & the Venus 3 Album 'Olé! Tarantula''Adventure Rocket Ship' & 'Saturday Groovers' from 'Goodnight Oslo' (a long time fave of my wife's, I just didn't get his stuff for ages, but finally the penny dropped when I saw him live). Some Truckstop Honeymoon, including 'Mardi Gras in Kansas' followed by 'Walk of Shame', and as I settled in, Vieux Farka Touré's album 'UFOs Over Bamako' Staff Benda Bilili lined up to follow is the JSP box set 'Boogie Uproar' 'Texas R&B' .
I just thought that writing my selection up would be sufficient displacement activity but sadly no. I still have to do it. Perce

Been listening to George Harrison's 'All Things Must Pass' album a lot of late. Other than that my usual diet of John Coltrane and Bob Dylan Anyone else here use last.fm? That would answer the question of what we're REALLY listening to! (For those who don't know, it's a site which provides recommendations for music based on what you listen to, which it finds out using a cunning little programme called the scrobbler. Check it out) Here's my profile feel free to add if you are on there www.last.fm/user/PirateSam1987Take care LR

I hadn't used Last FM before I just typed in Carmen Souza and there is all sorts! But I am actually hearing her playlist I think! Cause it isn't Carmen Souza its Solomon somebody - I can't tell you who as he just disappeared - Too Confusing! Pahhh!
If you want to hear her brand of Cape Verdean, smooth & funky grooviness Its easier to go to you tube and type her name in or just click

Picked up a TOTAL gem in the US last week Rough & Tough by John Hammond. It is a SACD hybrid disc, recorded in an empty church in New York. The CD layer of the disc doesn't sound bad, but the 4.7gb SACD layer sounds awesome on a decent sound system. They have really 'captured' the acoustic of the space it was recorded in. Being a 'dual layer' hybrid disc, it will also play in most CD players, since it includes a 'Red Book layer' for backwards compatibility. I know we don't talk about hi-fi any more since the advent of .MP3s, but this disc is a revelation. The technical quality of the recording is truly 'stellar' and the performances by John Hammond match. Howlin' Wolf's "My Mind is Ramblin', for example, teeters on the very brink of a four wheel powerslide with the 'wheels coming off' all the way through - (this is a good thing...) It is just his voice, his harmonica, his National and assorted acoustic guitars and the 'space' of the location. Including songs by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf & Blind Willie McTell plus some John Hammond originals It was a bit of an impulse purchase, but I'm really glad I bought it.. Definitely the best resonator guitar recording I own, and a benchmark to aim for in terms of 'technical recording quality' Anyone else seen this? It has been 'out' since April, but I'd never heard of it or seen it reviewed anywhere till I stumbled across it in Amoeba records last week. I guess 'Chesky records' is a specialist audiophile label, with limited distribution - although having written that I now see it is listed as available on Amazon UK..Hear some audio samples and the track listing here or here in High Definition Audio (FLAC)I also notice that Chesky Records use 'free mp3's' as a promotional tool for their physical discs, since their product is so superior in terms of audio quality they can probably get away with it. Now wouldn't that be great if it 'caught on' as an idea??

You can talk about great hi-fi sound & John Hammond with me anytime!
I have been a fan of John's since I first saw him play in 1965 at the Winter Gardens in Margate. I was nine years old and John was over here to promote a record that was his one and only attempt at being a pop star, 'I Live The Life I Love'. I don't remember him singing that song, but he did perform most of the first two Vanguard LPs. He is a great artist and a gentleman. I knew about this new record, but I was not aware of the hi-fi aspect of it. I must get hold of a copy. The last album of John's I got was 'Wicked Grin', which is a superb record. John singing Tom Waits songs is very cool.
mp3....it has its place, but it is not hi-fidelity sound.
Thanks for posting the info
Shine On Michael.

P Hi Percy Yes, approached from this angle the last.fm world can be a little confusing! Like a lot of social networking sites, it includes a fair few features which are a little beyond it's fundamental remit. The basic function of last.fm is what I described above, listening to what you like and giving you suggestions, also giving you the opportunity, should you wish, to connect with people of similar tastes. I addition to this, it also has a 'radio' system, so you can enter a 'tag' say 'slide guitar' and it will play songs by a whole bunch of artists who have been tagged 'slide guitar' by users. Or you can do what you did, go to an artists page and click on play their radio. It starts with a track by them and then moves to similar artists. I realise this is a little off topic, so will shut up about last.fm now! LR
