Don't get me wrong Harriet, I enjoyed seeing him (and the rest of the bill) - we were just disappointed that we didn't see the raucous performance that we were expecting. ...and his Houserockers are one heck off a rhythm section; we musn't forget them either.

Just to say I probably would have been as well PD, and its a great little story about seeing him in the wings. I researched and I don't know if anyone is interested but Chris Strachwitz posted about 2 hours of the American Blues and Folk Festival - not sure if it's available to folks across the pond and I think it's been avaiable on DVD. I didn't watch much but noticed John Jackson and watched the to the clip of Big Joe Williams. That's here: archive.org/details/AmericanFolkAndBluesFestival676869.upgraded

Thanks Harriet. It plays on my system here in the UK so that means I have another evening of nostalgia and entertainment.

The next year (1970) was also a great lineup. Albert King also did some concerts with several of the acts on the 1970 tour, (Bukka White, Willie Dixon, Sister Rosetta)sadly I can’t find any recordings from that year. Pete I think I saw them a Portsmouth?

I've been looking into Big Bill since MM posted that 'Glory of Love' vid. He really was rather good, wasn't he?

Some good stuff coming from isolated musicians. A pleasure to drop a few notes in their hats too.
Eg
Picture/sound sync not great, but the sound itself is pretty good, especially his wooden Mule. The music starts about 18 minutes in.

Always liked their music when a youth in the sixties - good clear vocals and tight band.
Happy days
