Hi everyone, I have been thinking for a while that we could do with a new board on the forum and here it is. Music Row is a place to talk about music and share our knowledge of techniques, new tracks, films, TABs, how to play particular songs and licks, ask questions about playing techniques....etc. NO GUITAR DISCUSSIONS >JUST MUSIC ON HERE PLEASE No commercial advertising posts. Anything commercial will be deleted. I look forward to seeing how this new board develops Shine On Michael.

super idea MM I have a question - I saw at least two people do it at bluesfest (Mr Black, Mr Alderson and / or MM). its like a harmonic 12th fret slide 'ending' on the top 'e' string. it probably has a name, and is hopefully very easy - but how is it done? TT

Sounds like a `palm` harmonic. Put slide over a fret, then pluck your string while gently letting the edge of your plucking hand make contact with the string 12frets higher up. you can make the harmonic in other ways this is most common with lap players

Hi TT,
Glad you like the new board. It was never my intention to limit this forum to guitar talk, and there are plenty of threads about music and playing techniques, but to have a board specifically for music talk is something I think we will all enjoy and benefit from.
Now to your question > It is kind of like a palm harmonic, but just done with one finger making the harmonic. (A palm harmonic is a different technique that has nothing to do with palm trees).
Let's call your harmonic a 'sliding one string harmonic'.
1 - Make a harmonic on the top string by touching the string above the 12th fret wire with the tip of a finger on your left hand and pluck the string with your right hand - do it nice and loud so it rings out.
2 - While the note is ringing, place your slide on the top string at zero fret (just by the nut) and slide up the string nice and smooth to the 12th fret, or beyond. In fact you can slide to anywhere you want on the string - for a blues in the key of G in open G tuning it is very effective to finish a tune by doing the sliding harmonic from zero to fret 5 and back down to fret 3. This is the G7th note and is perfect way to end a blues.
If my explanation is clear, that should have you doing it without too much difficulty?
