I guess that coming into slide playing from a different approach than that of directly from the Blues i have a different angle on things.
But I like to think that most,if not all of my listening/influenceshave some kind of roots in the Blues anyway.
1) Much of Captain Beefhearts output. Raw, psychedelic, "out-there" bluesy stuff.
2) Velvet Underground. Despite their "hipper than hip" image,a band deeply rooted in blues/soul music.
3) John Lee Hookers favorite white rock band.Led Zeppelin.
4) James Brown. The link between Blues/Soul and HipHop/rap
5) Booker T & The MGs
6) The compilation called The Sun Collection. Everyone from Junior Walker to Elvis. From Howling Wolf to Roy Orbison.
7) Classic period Rolling Stones. We all have our favorites
8) Otis Redding. Pure Soul.
9) The Pixies. Everything good about rock music distilled into 3 minutesongs
10) Chuck Berry.Took blues and made it moreabout Chevrolets and drive-ins, than weather and women.
Not much slide/reso playing inthis list, but it floats my boat
