More or less bumping this for the very useful and interesting info on CBW's tools and tunings (above), thank you Michael (one more instance of internet searches leading me back to this forum...) Also wanted to mention, in case anyone else is interested, there is (at time of writing, one copy of the (above mentioned) Classic Slide Guitar Blues Vol.2 on ebay uk for £4, which seems very reasonable (there were two, but I snapped one up)... Can't seem to find Vol. 1 this side of the pond tho... Also may be worth mentioning that Bottleneck Guitar Trendsetters of the 1930s is now also available as an MP3 download (warning: reading some of these threads can have financial consequences )

Thanks Bod - It is always good to talk about one of my all time favourite musicians. He was so important and influential in Chicago and yet historians have virtually ignored him. Married to Memphis Minnie and his band often included Big Bill Broonzy and Tampa Red on rhythm guitar ......what more do I need to say!

Oh bod, you're so right. Just pressed the button on trendsetters CD on the basis of this thread and one or two odd tracks I heard sometime in the past!
Michael - sounds like a few more CBW disciples are in the pipeline :-)

I just listened to the Trendsetters CD yesterday (one of my "desert island CD:s" ) for the umpteenth time. And this topic was active when I looked at the forum today.
Casey Bill is a huge influence and inspiration to me.

"Seek and ye shall find." I wanted to know more about Casey Bill Weldon, and of course by looking in the archives I found this great thread. Started 15 years ago and so much good stuff here. I hope you don't mind, but I thought I'd bump it back up for others to see and appreciate. Another great rabbit hole to go down! (And thanks MM for your insight and explanations in this thread).

Seek and ye shall find indeed! Let's talk Casey Bill. It's been a while, but I can easily put myself back into this subject. There was a time when I played Casey Bill style guitar day in and day out, until eventually I had to move on! I do this occasionally with the original master slide players. Louisiana Red and I had many conversations about Casey Bill's playing and his influence on what became known as Chicago Blues. Of course there is also Tampa Red in this mix, but Tampa's influence is fairly well documented, whereas Casey Bill's part in all this is not documented. I like it when a fifteen year old thread comes to the surface again. Shine On Michael
