A friend of mine recently loaned me a copy of the Michael Messer tuitorial video "Slide Guitar Vol 1", which I've found is a very useful aid to learning. Wanting my own copy I called the London Resonator Centre where my mate originally bought it only to find it is no longer stocked. Could anyone tell me where I can obtain a copy but in DVD format? also are the additional volumes available and do they come with tab notational booklets?

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your enquiry and thanks to Alan for pointing you towards Resound.
The reason I stopped marketing the DVD was because the company I was working with did not 'author' the DVD correctly and therefore more than 50% were returned as un-playable. We were only selling via one or two outlets and I decided to pull the plug.
Alan is correct that Resound has got copies of my DVD. But if it does not play I am not responsible and your dealings are between yourself and Resound. I pulled the plug on manufacture and marketing and really there should not be any for sale anywhere. But....if you want to chance it, you have been warned!!!
Meanwhile.....if it does work, I hope you will enjoy and learn from it.
Let us know how you get on,
Shine On, Michael.

I read that DVD runs often have problems especially with sound.

Thanks guys for the advice, I will follow up the purchase from Resound and keep my fingers crossed, however I have come across a couple of teaching DVD's and wondered if anyone has any comments on them; Rory Block " Robert Johnson style Guitar" and Bob Brozman "Slide Guitar Blues", I have been playing blues guitar for quite sometime but have only dabbled in slide playing but having purchased a Fender Resinator on a recent U.S. holiday I feel I must justify the outlay by getting as much teaching info as possible and then hopefully start to sound something half decent. Furthermore hopefully I won't be a guest to this site much longer as I'm waiting for my registration to be accepted.
Cheers Guys......... Ian

Hi again Ian,
We have no control over the membership, it is all done at ProBoards HQ. If you have a problem joining, let me know and we can delete your membership so you can try again! Darn technology....it gets me every time :-)
Regarding your question about learning; DVDs are okay, but the best way is to just dive in and start playing. Copying records and keep pickin'n'slidin' until it starts to make sense. Do you know about the European Blues Association? It is a non-profit charity organization that holds teaching events around the UK, of which I am usually in attendance. The next weekend is in Pocklington (N Yorks) in November, then Bracknell (Berks) in March, and then a whole week next August at Exeter University. It's a great way to learn and meet people with similar interests. Tutorial DVDs....well I think it depends a lot on what style you are looking for and level you are at. Other members of this forum would be able to advise you better than I can. I also think that it is really good to watch films of the old blues masters of the slide guitar - there are some great DVDs of players doing their thing....Fred McDowell, Son House, Bukka White....etc. For me they beat any tutorial DVD hands down.
Gotta go....keep in touch,
Shine On Michael

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your kind words about the tuition DVD. There is no written TAB to go with it. I do not write TAB and never really used it when I learnt. The film is pretty clear, what part of the first blues piece "Walking Blues" do you have difficulty understanding? If I or other forum members can help you, we will :-)
You are not the only person to have asked for TAB. The DVD was an experiment really, just to see if I could do it & if it would be of interest to people. The only way I could include TAB would be to get someone to write it for me, which would have taken more time than filming & editing the DVD. Plus the fact that I like to see students develop their own style and interpretations of the music, so to me the TAB is not essential.
The "Walking Blues" that I teach on the DVD is pretty close to the Muddy Waters version with the walking bass line. There must be many books with the TAB of that song, it is one of THE classics of the blues slide guitar world.
Do you knowe about the EBA (European Blues Association)? Our next event is at Pocklington Arts CEntre in North Yorkshire. I will be teaching slide guitar, Michael Roach will be teaching country blues acoustic guitar, and Little George Seuref will be teaching harmonica. It will be a great weekend and you would learn a lot. Much better than a DVD!
Keep in touch Shine On, Michael.

hi michael, thanks for reply, the bit im having trouble with is the little fingerpicking you do going from G to G7 on the practice blues example before you introduce the slide with Walking Blues, regards kevin

Hi, Just called into my local MVC (which seems to be closing down) & found lots of Vestapol & tuition DVD for sale a crazy low prices. One called 'Bottleneck Blues' is great as (for once) you can see what many of the players are doing with BOTH hands. Great for watching and learning. Enjoy! ;D

Been looking for a few new DVDs & came across 'Legends Of Country Blues Guitar - Vol. 3' in the DVD section of Amazon Uk - however they may have their pictures muddled up!

Just tried typing 'Michael Messer' into eBay & found Michaels Slide Tuition video on there, as well as "Lucky Charms" (the CD isn't officially released yet!) . Sometimes I'm amazed - I remember having to ORDER a record & then there was a long wait before the shop got it in, usually well after release date! Am I showing my age???!!

Thanks Woody, I find this amazing. My album is not yet released and someone is selling them on e-Bay. I am not an e-Bay member, I would really appreciate finding out who this person is. Would someone start bidding and try and find out what part of the UK the vendor is based.....or something? I think it's great that e-Bay is selling MM albums, but come on.....it is not even released yet. I believe the scan of the front cover is from my own website. The vendor has got some information wrong which intrigues me; the producer credit is not correct, which may be the vendors undoing!

Hiya, Just looked again at the "Lucky charms" advert on eBay again and see it's a "promo" copy for sale. So that explains the low start price - the seller didn't buy it!!Many people seem to find 'promo' disks "collectable" & are happy to pay a premium, however from the artists/labels point of view they have given the CD for promotional purposes & the recipient then flogs it - the ungrateful b******! In this instance flogging it BEFORE the release date is a bit underhand. The daft thing about eBay is that people often pay 'over the odds' for CDs in particular, that are often available on Amazon UK cheaper!!!

Well the Lucky Charms on eBay went for £11.01 + £1.50 P&P. Cheaper via Cookin' Vinyl - c'est la vie.
