Hi Michael
My problem with the Hipshot fitted to a Dobro is that I have never seen one being used. Considering I spend my life around slide guitarists, Dobros & Nationals, that tells me something. If it is such a great product, why do all the Dobro & slide guitar players take two guitars or retune with a digital tuner.

I totally agree Michael & i think i just found out why nobody uses them.
My initial post was to see if anybody had tried one.
To see what people thought of them before i bought one, but nobody seems to have tried them.
So i tried one anyway.
I really don't beleive the guitars is at fault it is braced heavily with x bracing from Headstock to tailpiece. When I rebuilt it i checked to see if the body moved at all under tension, with a straight edge when the strings were tensioned. It dosn't move not 1 millameter. The only weak link so to speak is the standard kneck & it's joint to the body, but i don't think that would create the problem at low tension tunings such as open G & D.
I will be interested in seeing how snakehips gets on with his as he is fitting it to an NRP, hopefully he will get better results & prove that it's my guitar at fault. So the Trillogy won't have been a waste of money.
But I think that the trillogy was designed for fixed bridge electric guitars & they just bolted the mechanism to a dobro style tail peice. To sell a fue more units.
If it was designed for a dobro shurely it should take 059 or 056 strings but it won't, they are too big.
Also the hipshot supplied nut and saddle seem to me to be a type of plastic. The saddle i fitted is not good for the sound of the guitar.
I'm really rather disapointed with it , i did get the impression from the sales litterature. That you could flick through many different tunings with out retuning. But perhaps i just expected too much.
Anyway nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I will post pictures when i get the time.
For now though as far as changing tunings go. I 'm gonna be following the conventional route of more than one descent guitar, so will be looking to buy myself another NRP towards the end of the month.
Regards
