Sorry TT I seem to have jumped your thread. Same guitar subject though so hope you don't mind ๐๐ธ I've just started restringing the 12 string with 12-54s from Newtones . I've never seen string posts like these before so thought I'd ask about them. I suppose l will just copy the way it's strung now, are they unusual and made like this for a specific purpose? Any comments and advice welcome as always. Best wishes to you all, John

The 2 holes make it so much harder, especially with the thicker strings. Looking along at the other posts the last person to restring has thought 'sod this' and used one hole. Think that's wot I'll be doing! A design that didn't catch on?

Hi there !
Those are Wilkinsons Dual Lock tuners. They are not โlocking tunersโ in the sense there being an active component that tightens onto the string. The two string holes are at 90 degrees to each other- and you string through one, bend the string round 90 degrees, the string through the other & bend again. Holds the string really well. The added benefit is that you can choose which hole to exit the string to the nut, thereby choosing the break angle over the nut eg. The lower hole for the unwound strings.
The downsides with these tuners are they are a bit heavy and removing the whole string (when one breaks, or just when you are ready to change strings), is a bit tricky.

Thanks Snakey ๐ I was wondering if they were made for 12 string guitars ๐ธ. As you pointed out, by choosing which hole you use you can avoid string clashes. Removing the 6th and 5th strings was a bit of a pain, strings bent double I had to work an electrical screwdriver in to lever them off the posts! Not a relaxing afternoon! I shall be visiting my friend Captain Morgan when I finish! Thanks for the help ๐

New fangled gimmicks again. A tuner is a tuner and they have been fine for a hundred or so years and don't seem to have problems with strings slipping, but someone thinks they can do it better. Compliments of the season! Shine On Michael
