I messaged the seller this morning but no reply as yet. Not worried about the duty but things get stuck in Customs & I'm not going to be around to sort it out.

So yesterday I contacted them and purchased the mandolin--waiting for the invoice to pay. They wanted to make sure I meant this and not the tricone tenor they also have. When it arrives I'll take it to Dave Flood for a once over. I guess my logic in spending money on this is that I should have the transitional model between my tricone and the style 1 mandolin I got from Noah Miller. This will also be my only engraved National. This seems to be my year for screen coverplates--first that Triolian uke, then the wooden tenor guitar. So glad this year is almost over!

I am pleased to know that it has gone to someone in the family. It's been a pretty good year for you and screen coverplates. I look forward to hearing about it. Shine On Michael

Well I live about hour away from the store here in USA that had it and was just on my way to go get it and checked the website before I drove there. I was out of town for a few days and came home early last night to go get it this morning. Seems like it was a great deal. I did get my 1928 2.5 flatback tricone round neck and it was a great deal so I'm happy. Congratulations to the new owner of the mando.

Invoice finally came and I paid. Flood is just about finished with his current project for me and made the mistake of saying--"That was more fun than I thought it would be! You'll have to come up with something else for me to mess with..." He'll deny he ever said it when I spring this on him!

It was a shame for you that Mendax beat you to the mandolin, but at least we know where it is and it’s in the family. It’s always easier when you’re on the right side of the pond. Shine On Michael

HI, yes it would have been a very nice Instrument to bring back to life. I've had a lot of Instruments in "Attic" condition over the years, including a Tricone, several Duolians, three Style O's, three Fiddle edge Dobros and a few wooden ones. It's been lots of fun and I've met some great people on the way. I bought this one off Martyn Roper last year & it's a beauty. National Mandolins have a 15 inch scale length & they sound "right" with fairly heavy strings and tuned down to DAEB rather than the usual GDAE, so their use is a bit limited. Not a problem as I have rather a lot of Mandolins.

Looks to be a good price, however they often need major neck surgery..... Lee Lee, You are right, but major neck surgery is only a reset, which to get this instrument playing well, is nothing really. Shine On Michael Well, the mandolin arrived on Boxing Day. It was not actually at the store, they evidently keep a lot of the vintage instruments off site, and it wasn't until mid week that someone picked it up to bring it to the store for shipping. I see no problem with the neck, the action is low with no buzzing and other than one slightly bent tuning shaft, there are two tiny bulges on the front and back lower bout from slight dents. Even with the old and missing strings it sounds fine, and when I get it polished up I'll take some more pictures, although I doubt they will be as good as the ones on the seller's site!
